Wanting to put a K&N intake on my ‘03 2.7L. Question is, which one? There’s a lot of options on the site, yes I searched for products specific to my engine. What should I be looking for? I’m a novice to mechanic work but I’m changing that because this truck is becoming a project lol. Any advice on intake selection is much appreciated!

K&N drop in filter with Deck Plate mod. with any K&N filter, you have to be very easy on the oil, it's super easy to over oil them and mess up your MAF sensor. Most folks will tell you to steer clean of oiled filters for that reason. I've been running my drop in K&N filter for 20+ years without an issue.

Also worth noting, whatever you do is mostly just cool points, it's not going to result in a notable increase in HP or "performance".

My 2 cents... skip the K&N and give this one a go

    Amazon should have it.

Do you happen to know which series? They’re differentiated by series numbers and there’s multiple options for each series, the title only says ‘performance air intake system’ so I’m unsure on which one you mean. Link to the page for my vehicle https://www.knfilters.com/cold-air-intakes/cars-and-trucks.html

edit: looks like the one I was eyeing is the 57-9016-1. Also, I glanced through the deck plate mod write up but I’m not too keen on it. What does the mod actually do?

I just have the drop in replacement:

The "Cold Air Intake" ones are pointless. The air is drawn from either the engine bay (deck plate $ or CIA $$$) or the wheel well (stock). Either way, the air temp in the intake manifold is just the ambient air outside. Thus my recommendation of the cheap deck plate mod, and drop in filter.

You get what you pay for......dont buy one that just sucks in hot engine air.....dont even bother then....
A good one is gonna cost you...

They'll give you no advantage until you are accelerating at highway speeds...
and cause your fuel trims to swing to +10 or more at Hwy....
tiny bit more power.....but at a fuel cost....

its tenancy is to over run the egr which is trying to cut oxygen.....

Ok, I just read the article on gadgetonline about his dyno testing with different configs of stock airbox, modded airbox, elbow removed, KN FIPK, etc. seems the KN filter is fine but AMSOIL filter is better, and the KN FIPK actually reduces power; that answers my intake question. The recommendation for best performance was stock airbox with an AMSOIL filter and the elbow in the fender/wheel well removed. I don’t plan on doing any water crossings anytime soon so this seems the way to go. I don’t need to hassle with the deck plate mod either since I’m not off-roading with any water crossings. Anyone removed that intake elbow in the fender before? Is it as simple as peeling back the liner to access it or is it going to be more detailed than that?

Dang that looks nice, is that a intercooled supercharger? Or is that just a nice intake?

Thank you! Sorry, I tend to default to just asking because my google-fu is usually lacking and I can never find what I need. I also noticed that on the amsoil website I searched for ts-117 and nothing came up, going through the product catalog the air filters they have are wix brand. Do they not make the ts-117 filters anymore, are the wix filters the same, or should I just go with the afe filter linked above? Thank you in advance for putting up with all my newbie questions.
