Hey fellas, so I see those beefy tires are quite popular on Tacomas and do look sick.

However, are they better than full winter tires or at least equal to? I am talking about Vermont kinda winter roads, are they holding on well? Or will I need to get full winter tires separately

BFG's perform great in WI winters. Yokohama Geolandar X-AT's are supposed to be better...I'll get back to you next spring.

When it comes to ice, black ice, frosty bridge decks a real winter tire like the Bridgestone DMV2 or whatever will be way better than any AT tire.
Ive run the KO2 through the winter and if you drive with caution, not like a nut job you'll be fine. I run around 28, 30 psi when its crappy conditions.
If you have kids driving your truck then I'd go for a real winter tire for the extra safety.

Unless you're running chains or studs, Ice is nobody's friend.
Adding to the X-AT's. My 1 complaint this far is they pick up marble size rocks. They don't really kick rocks but pick them up and tic tic tic tic.
    Been picking rocks daily.

I live in NJ but we, two families are planning to go for skiing, and some house in the forest. Location will likely be in Vermont, and so far from what I have read its clear that it gets very snowy there, I am just not sure if buying all winter tires is worth for 1 trip.. Because here in NJ its always salt and dirt, and all season tires usually do.

I think ill go with winter tires, I don't have kids but my family will be travelling in my truck.

Factory lift kit. Lomax tri fold Tonneau.
Wi and Minn winter driving, on a new set of Yokohama Geolanders, they will get you around in winter, you have to take it easy in some conditions or rear of truck gets loose. Ran the Bridgestone Blizzaks prior they are far superior for traction and stopping. You can’t beat a dedicated winter tire with a AT tire.

@4runnerToTacoma maybe consider cables for the one trip you will take. You may not even need them.

Some weight in the back certainly helps.
I put some heavier shocks and sumo springs on along with a +1 tire in hopes of controlling that rear end better.

Yes, my bed will be packed. Other family has Subaru SUV but most of the stuff with be packed in my bed.

    My current tires are 245/75/16

I want to get 265s in general, they look beefy.

These are the ones I am looking at for winter tires

I might go something cheaper, just don't really want to stretch my wallet for week long trip.

A coworker has a side hustle snow plow business. He loves the Coopers on his plow truck.

I’m shopping for tires too , Some Firestone’s look good . I wonder if Firestone is good. I hated them when I worked at the ford dealership about 24 years ago when they were recalled and I had to remove hundreds & cut the serial numbers out of the sidewalls. I guess I should give them another chance? Haha

@otherphone if I'm not mistaken, you where replacing them with Michelin or Goodyear. That's what the recall was directing installers to do.

I think we were putting goodyears on , and I think the recall effected Ford explorers. Not 100% sure. It was so long ago
