This is a hold over from my Dominos days, but I always carry two keys for the vehicle I'm driving, so that should I decide to leave it running for some reason, I can still lock it up, and it reduces the chance of locking myself out to damned close to nothing.

I know people using Air tags to track vehicle (I know of one recovered this way).

Most recent I have heard using 2 air tags, 1 easy to find if they are smart enough to look (armrest cargo) and other "hidden".

something with an immobilizer. Also, spend more on the install so they don’t totally ruin your wiring harness with their 16 year old doing their first install.

I have a hide a key, but I made a cheap copy at the hardware store. No G-chip (2nd gen) so it will unlock and turn the ignition, but since it’s missing the chip, the immobilizer prevents the fuel pump from turning on, so it just cranks and cranks if you try it.

So, great as a spare to get into the truck if you lock yourself out, but can’t steal the truck with it.

so that’s my first recommendation. Don’t leave a functional key in the truck.

Air tags got delivered today. headed to silverhtorne this evening for two weeks so going to set those up tonight.

This is a great idea. i did not realize you could copy it to get into the truck and that be the only use.

I’m not sure how the 3rd gen non-switchblade FOB keyless entry remotes work, but I assume it’s the same as the 2nd gen with a chip inside the key. So this should work for you.

I don’t have experience with any of those, but I have remote start on the 2nd gen. I don’t need it and wouldn’t miss if I didn’t have it, but it’s nice a few times a year to use it. I personally feel it’s worth putting that money towards vehicle tracking these days, rather than the slight convenience of remote start in our “dumb” trucks. This isn’t a Tesla or others where you can remotely turn on the vehicle and adjust the HVAC, so all you’d do is start it up with how it was last set or to pre-heat the engine.

The specs on that one look decent. I assume the “E-LOCK” somehow cuts one of your electrical wires and puts the alarm in-line so that it prevents fuel pump, starter, or something from running without disabling the alarm with the key fob.

I know you’re out in the middle of nowhere sometimes, so I’d consider what would happen with one of these systems if you lost a fob while out on the water and get back to the truck to only a spare/hidden functional key… Can you bypass the alarm somehow to drive back home/to town? I know that on my 1st gen with the RS3200 Toyota Keyless system “upgraded” to the alarm, as long as you were able to get into the truck and start the vehicle, it shut it off…. So this one didn’t really have an immobilizer.

I’m not sure what my current aftermarket alarm/remote start does with the combo of Toyota G-key/immobilzer and keyless system, but now you have me thinking about testing out the permutations of things.

These are all great points. i believe this specific system is directed at the starter. i personally could care less about remote start but it seems as if you cant get a system with out.

im going to go to cartoys and see it in person and try and get some info from them on this but im reading some great reviews of this brand and system

I would avoid using Car toys to install. Have heard of far to many complaints with parasitic drains/ other electrical problems post their installs.

Is there a Toyota version you can install in your SR5?
