Dealer advised ventilator treatment

At the dealer just getting free oil change but what is this ventilator treatment they are trying to push? What can I get myself to fix this on my own terms of anyone has any insight it’s greatly appreciated.

 

It’s a typical scam add on service supposedly to clean and deodorize your AC vents in the truck. If you don’t have funky smells coming from the vents when air is blowing there’s no need to do anything.

 

They spray this anti mold stuff into the evaporator on the ac and it kills the smell of you have any

 

You can buy a can and spray it yourself.

 

If you run your AC a lot in a humid state, some type of drying out would be good for it- maybe running the fan with fresh outside air after you turn off the AC (don’t use recirculate), but I wouldn’t pay for that treatment.

 

get a can of BG frigi fresh.
Probably what they were going to use.
One can will treat your truck several times.

 

This is the kit they "should" use. Is very easy to DIY. Assuming you have less than 20K and they say you have funky odors in there might be indicative af another problem but TBH I think it's just an upsell.

Most Dealers Have the service writers push the service of the week or month

They make a nice commission .

After all The Free Oil Change gets you into the dealer so they can up sell you a service to make$$$

Many of the clueless figure I am Here Now why not!

This is all u need cheap .. just open the cabin air filter box while ac running lightly spray some of this in there it will kill any bacteria and odor. Do this to all my vehicles works great . Dealers are scam artists .awhile ago was told my mass air flow sensor needed to be cleaned . 200 bucks … I asked how did the technician check it …. Response was they didn’t it had an alert in their system that needs service . I was like what the hell then how did u know it needs to be cleaned . The service advisor was lost for words . Never trust the crap they sell you .

 

Man..I hate it when the Truck has to go on the Ventilator....

Agree with others. They pushed that on my wife when she took her RAV4 in. It was perfectly fine before and it made zero difference after. Total waste of money. Really ticked me off that they took advantage of her like that.

I have a little ozone generator that is fantastic at killing any odors, mold, and bacteria. Put that sucker in your truck on for 5 minutes with the ventilation fan on recirculate and let it sit for an hour. Great to use around the house, just don’t be in the same room while it’s doing its thing. Ozone isn’t living mammal friendly.
