Has anyone on here installed it on a 2022? If so, which one did you choose, and why did you choose it?

Do you mean hood struts? I added the Spiker Engineering struts. Very Happy. Added open height was a plus.

16-23 is all the same. I went with their +7 kit. Fantastic, as expected from Redline.

Also has no issues clearing the auxiliary fuse block I installed later after the previous pic was taken.

Anyone know if someone makes extended struts where they’d also open to normal height?

My carport ceiling so too low for extended but it’d be great to have the option to push it open further.

I don't believe such a thing exists... by sheer design, struts only extend to 1 length.

You could add a limit strap... but aside from that, I'd just get the standard height. I've never had an instance where that's not high enough.

I'm 6' and I never had a need for greater hood opening height. With a lift and 35" tires, I need a step stool to reach some parts of the engine.

If you're doing major work like supercharger installation, you can loosen the 4 hinge bolts and remove the hood.

I installed Redline struts. Very happy with them. Open a little more than with rod. Don't have a need or see why extension would be needed. Have to drill holes but no problem. Pop rivets can be a challenge unless you have strong hands. Recommend getting inexpensive adaptor for power hand drill.

What poundage do these usually run for a hood?

I really wish Toyota would do this as OEM. I really want to get hood struts. However, I know that after 5 or 6 years, they’re going to need to be replaced. All I could hope for at that point, is that the company that made them is either still in business, or i’ll be drilling yet more holes to install a different set (which I really do not want to do). Might have to poke around and see how long Redline has been around…

I also run the redline struts and find them to be very good. I had to switch my powertray, though.

I was using the powertrays spod mount which mounts the sPOD on the fender side and leaves a giant open space on the left. The strut didn't have enough clearance with the sPOD. I ended up just switching it out for the dual version and mounting the spod on the left. You could also just drill it out but I'm anal.

Don't know why they wouldn't last as long as oem on cars that have them. I had a 2006 Honda Accord that one of my kids has and the hood struts still work fine.

Redline has been making hood struts for Tacomas for 15 years or so.

When the struts fail, you can revert to using the prop rod like the millions of other Tacoma-driving peasants.

Your luck has been way better than mine with those. Had a 2007 Honda Crosstour, and they needed replaced after 6 years. 2002 Jeep Liberty needed new ones every 2 or 3 years, hood and rear glass.

But the point of spending the extra cabbage is to not have to be a peasant ever again. Probably a good sign that Redline is going to be around for a while. Thanks for that info!

My 2010 4Runner has original struts for the hood and rear hatch, as does my father's 2011 Subaru.

Funny enough replacement hood struts for the 4Runner are only $5 from Sachs: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=4674333&cc=3307198&pt=1404

I installed the Red Line and my mechanic and I love it. It has more height than the original prop rod.
