Hey there and hello On Oct. 1st my trusty 15’ Honda Pilot will be traded in for a 23’ Tacoma Double Cab SR5, black on black on black. This truck will mark uncharted pride and exploration for me. I’m a girly girl and a bit in the dark to the tips and tricks that this community can provide. The members come across as wanting to be helpful by reading the threads in the forums. Hoping to be included in on local excursions and learn more about how I can treat my lady and take care of her. Jealous of the Army Green, Desert Sands and Cement Gray owners out there. Any one of those colors were my goal but was informed they are no longer in production, what a shame. Anyways, thanks for the welcome and see yal on the boards.

The wives and GFs usually keep the men here in check on modding? Who is going to be your control? :spending:

Welcome, I am on day 8 of Toyota ownership myself. I am already becoming a huge fanboy. Either the mods are faster than me or this place remains civil on it's own. Ive been here a few weeks and love it.

Um ... then go away now and never look at any post in here. Especially: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-have-you-done-to-your-3rd-gen-today.399305/

Seriously ... lifts, tires, wheels, armor (engine skids, transmission skids, gas-tank skids, rock-sliders under the door-edges), de-chroming (removing every instance of bright-silver on the truck), bed accessories (complete racks, mounts for axes/shovels/on-board-air-systems, etc) ... some are $10k into modifications and hundreds of hours into the effort.

Avoid lifts until you know how you will use it (rock-crawling, mall-crawling ...)
Tires are an easy change, probably one of the best-bang-for-the-buck changes
Belly armor, especially the front splash plate replaced by at least a Toyota TRD Skid Plate, can be relatively easily justified

Everything else you should ask about first.

Woooooowza! That was an excellent listing of possibilities. Thank you for that! The tires will be a good one, a small lift and the TRD pro grill is what I’m thinking for the year 2024 mods. I’m a cheapskate and don’t see myself spending loads of cash. Your list was a really great one to focus in on when it comes to modifying. I’ll refer to it as time goes by for sure. Thank you my friend.

Read much ... step one. Here are some general "4x4 usage" and familiarization threads.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/4x4-best-practices-for-snow-covered-roads.753009/
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-traction-control-modes-explained.530695/

This is why you do not take "off road recovery" lightly and why you want to hook up with people you trust when you go off-road ...

Welcome. The black on black look will be more timeless in the long run, although those other colors (along with voodoo blue) are pretty sweet looking.

What a great resource you are! Much needed and appreciated. Good info on 2wd v 4wd and then 4h v 4l. Great video to share on the proper rescue equipment, mind blown. Everything is physics! You think I should change my oil when my truck comes in or wait for the manufacturer’s suggestion? I have read too many different opinions but most say it’s just fine waiting.

Wait until 5000. Enjoy the truck, try not to get stuck in the wilderness anytime soon.

You should not overthink changing the truck right away. You can spend $3000+ before you even know it was necessary, and people have driven their Tacoma even 2500 miles immediately cross-country to celebrate the purchase ... just do not drive like a race car.

Find a local group to ride with. Post in your "regions" sub-forum (https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/regions.36/) to ask for a group to join.
