Audio Issue with non-JBL 18 TRD OR

So when I purchase the rig, I notice issues with the audio system. Only the tweeters worked. I discovered that the previous owner did a hack job in installing new speakers, subwoofer, and 2 amp.

I am a noob in audio systems but willing to learn.

I manage to fix the tweeters and recently the front door speakers. PO decided for some reason to use his own speaker wires (like the cheap kind) and rewired everything that way.

I found the oem connectors to the front speakers and sounds much better than before.

However the rear spears, I cannot find the oem connector (see image which I got from online). Plus the Right speaker is adjusted to the left on the head unit and vice versa with Left speaker.

Any thoughts on how I can fix the crosswire? IIRC i check the headunit and seems to be connected correctly.

Is it possible to buy a new oem connector for the rear door speakers? I searched online but cannot seem to find the part.

Crosswire would just be changing the rear inputs on the amp to match, or the outputs, both will accomplish the same result.

Check for the harness to be zip tied somewhere along the factory wiring - that's how I secured my factory wiring when I redid my whole system.

If new speaker wiring has been ran and you reconnected the speakers to factory wiring, it would bypass the amp and just run the signal off the headunit which makes the rear speakers inaudible. If the rear speaker wiring was removed/cut, what you'd need to source is a full door harness from Toyota in order to plug the speakers in. The harness disconnects near the door accordion tube. I'd try to fix the amp setup correctly and use it if you can on all 4 corners though - has to sound better than stock with proper wiring and tuning.

And tell me about it, this summer has been brutal.

Good to know. Yeah i just want to fix the issues but bonus if I can find and reconnect the oem connectors and get it all to work properly.

Yeah I tried and nope...make things worse those flying blood suckers decided to come back too lol

Update

Yeah I check inside the door and did not find the connector. Here is how the PO had it.

 

I do have the connentors from the speakers that goes to the oem connector on the door wire system.

I need to source out the male and splice/tap it into the the oem wire

 

contact a junkyard and see if they can cut them out of a similar vehicle. just about any 2000+ toyota will have the same connectors.

or you can cut off the toyota ends of the plugs, and connect into the wago's..

 

I’ve started using bullet connections for my speaker and amp connections. Makes it easy if you just need to unplug and switch speakers and such.

 

I respect the OEM connector route. I always try not to cut a factory connector personally.

At this point you already have to either solder a new one on if you want to use your adapter for the after market speakers. Depending on how much rust is on that wire, you’ll have to cut it higher up. At that point, you could either use a different set of quick disconnects or run additional speaker length to hook up the speakers.

I’d probably solder speaker wire on and attach the right speaker connectors for your speaker and call it a day. If you do end up swapping speakers, just unplug at the speaker itself. White wire is positive I believe.

 

100% agree. TBH not sure why the previous owner decided to cut off the oem wires. It was a shitty job that i have slowly been fixing.

I am set on finding the oem wires as I notice a huge difference in quality with the front speakers. I disconnected the aftermarket wires and replug the oem and night and day difference.

Does the oem wires matter from which trim level it comes from? I am assuming if its not a JBL system then all others are all the same.
