Why spend dollars and cents when you can spend $0 and still sell the truck?

The mirrors should be optional. The RAV-4 mirrors I forget which gen get swapped in quite frequently, Toyota could use those. You are right and I see why they don't offer them, but damn such a little feature that provides excellent results. Toyota decided to keep with tradition and not offer the spot mirrors on the 4th gen.

I’ve had below average range of motion my while life that hasn’t gotten better with age. For a long time I have relied on mirrors and more recently the fancy backup camera.

I’ve never had a blind spot monitor, so can’t comment on its effectiveness. I don’t think I would want to rely on one.

"Rely" on is too strong of a term, assist is more like it. It takes a while to get used to but eventually you start subconsciously comparing the light to what you "know" to be there. In dynamic traffic when you are focusing on other things (merging, suddenly slowing traffic in another lane, etc) it can give a warning that something entered your blindspot that you were unaware of.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Dude can’t google something simple, and you want him to look where he’s driving…?
