They are. Almost all manufacturers are using the same switches.

My issue with FRAM filters is more that they will be poorly assembled and not actually filter the oil.

Not my picture. Their products are cheap and their QA is shit!

I just talked to a friend of mine who works for J.D. and told him what my mower is doing, he said it has 2 coils and one is breaking down when it gets hot and causing it to not run right, I have a spare engine with 2 coils so I'm gonna swap them out and let Cole mow and see what happens.

Does this engine have the spark advanced modules? Yeah, Kohler would replace them with regular coils.

Don't need to pull the cover. It's mounted into the surface of the cover. A box about half the size of a pack of smokes.

Welp filled the B7100 front tires up the other day. Today greased lift arms bucket and hydrolic arms, lifted arms up and started to move, hard to move. Looked left tire was really low, I know this isn't right. Pulled off took 4 miles to tractor guy $24.00 later with new tube and we're good to go again.

So I don't need to swap these? It's the little silver box with the wires in it mounted to the cover?

    IMG_9600.jpg

I was going to swap those with the spare engine but it has 3 wires instead of 2.

After I realized that Cole got the 1960 something 110 out and got half the yard mowed :D

The second pic shows an engine that has a spark advanced module. Those engines were problematic. They did get you a little more power.

Kohler gas a new coil kit that eliminates the SAM and uses normal coils.

Notice the red wire? It goes to the battery. It really confused me the 1st time I saw one. I was taught that you never want 12v+ going to a coil. 12v+ will burn up a coil, but not with these spark advanced modules engines.

May be why the guy gave it to me, lol. It also has no compression. I can spin it by hand with the plugs in.

    Maybe.

Engines are pretty easy to source. They used the same engines in the Craftsman riding lawn tractors. Those were prone to safety features failing. Peeps sell them cheap. Find one with similar or ssme horsepower and swap them out.

ok for you mower fiends: lets talk blades.

any recommendations ? whats everybody running?

im not a striper or grass nazi. just mow & its a rough farm yard. want good lift & blow out. the factory blades dont seem to hold an edge for long & seem pretty soft.

61" Wright ZXT is my mower.

I very happily second gator mulching blades, I think I'm running G5 on my current zero turn. Just like diablo is my go to saw blades, gator G3 or G5 is my go to mower blades, the only mower I dislike gator blades on is my toro timemaster the oem blades leave a much better cut.

My understanding is G3 is thinner lighter blade more directed for homeowners, where as G5 is thicker more durable blade for professional use and abuse. I think gator has a even heavier duty blade made of some other kind of metal that keeps an edge better/longer.

oh then i definitely want the G5!

a complaint on these factory blades is that they are way thin compared to blades ive always ran on my Hustlers. ive got plenty of blade tip speed... not worried about slowing them down, but a little better durability would be nice.

will check into a set for my fat bottom girl.PXL_20220829_213941872~2.jpg
