4th Gen Wheels

Between the 5th gen 4runner and 3rd gen Tacoma, Toyota has put out some pretty nice OEM wheels that a lot of people flock to instead of aftermarket. Looking at the current offering on the 4th gen tacoma, I'm not sure how popular these wheels will be for retrofit. The pro wheels seem like the best ones of the bunch (already being cloned), and i'm sure the bronze fans will like the Trail Hunter's, but 18in starts to really eat into sidewall on 32-33s. Would you buy them for your 3rd gen? It'll be interesting to see what Toyota charges.

Will the new wheels even fit the hubs of a 3rd Gen Tacoma?

 

No. The hubs on 4th gen are smaller. You could put 3rd gen wheels on a 4th gen with hub-centric rings.

 

This is the worse thing Toyota did to TNGA-F, got rid of the large PCD hubs. It's really just a Toyota in name only now.

Test mules spied in December were running ugly J300 Land Cruiser wheels, which have been on the market since 2021 with known specs, 95mm centerbore and +60mm offset, same as the 2022+ Tundra. You will need minimum 1.25" non-hubcentric wheel spacers just to clear 3rd gen suspension. The wheel spacers also need M14 studs as the lug holes on the wheels are sized for larger M14 lugnut shank dia. Existing M12 Tacoma lugnuts will wallow around in the holes. Something like this should work:

In addition you will need:
M12 conical seat open lugnuts to bolt the spacers to a 3rd gen.
2022+ Tundra M14 lugnuts to bolt the wheels to the spacers.

Don’t think I have ever seen a RCSB 1st Gen Tundra, didn’t know they existed.

 

I like the trd pro and the TH but was never a fan of the polished lip or whatever there called from any brand.

 

This is what I was thinking on the TH rims. The look pretty decent for OEM, but hard no on the 18" rims for me personally. That and all the goofy looking molle shit attached to the forward bed.

 

Yeah it’s a bummer. Planned on swapping wheels/tires before kicking my 2G to my son. Even though I prefer all black, I like the 4G TRD OR wheels. Way better than 3G OR IMO.

 

What is the functional trade off going away from the old lug pattern? I have no idea.

Has anyone seen any specs for the wheels yet, like rim width and backspacing/offset?

I googled and read for about half hour this morning and couldn’t find any specs on the new wheels. Someone with more skills than me found the gearing specs, so I imagine they have to be somewhere.

 

So my 17" -12's will go on the 4th gen Tacoma? ...asking for a friend

 

Nope 4th has smaller hubs. You would need adaptors.

 

I guess I will have to keep my truck for a couple more years
