When you are pretty happy with how your build is going and than this guy shows up at your work.

Looks nicer than it came new. They weren't particularly great in the amenities department when they were brand spanking

I love the simplicity of it. No AC needed in the mountains.

I'v used the cheap AutoZone style they work but like Zane said "sketchy as fuck"

Just to be safe-ish I ran tie downs around the coils just in case they slipped off.

I tried the autozone bolt style on the kings but they didn't fit between coils.

Those do look sketchy, I just need to turn my coils up a lil bit

I've always just done that on the ground. Jack up or down your control arm with the wheel off until you have the most access and just go at it just make sure you lube up the threads good. I prefer to adjust them with the springs off but I've had decent luck adjusting them with the truck on them too

Just rap a set of tie downs around the springs with the weight of the truck on them. Crank down the tie downs. Jack up the truck to take the weight of the springs. That should take enough pressure off the collar to crank it down more.

Did a spark plug change on a 4runner today. The 1GR-FE is pretty easy. Also popped in a new air filter, but it's odd, after that it's now stumbling a bit on tip in. Not really sure why as there's no codes. Idles smooth but way down in power now. Any ideas?

Is the air hose cracked after lifting it a little bit? Also I seem to remember those having a little vacuum line to the bottom of the airbox

Did you change coil boots, did you inspect the coil boots for rip or carbon tracking? Kind of sounds like you have a fish bite misfire which could be from vacuum or just from the spark being diverted from the plug somewhere. I'd inspect and toss a little dielectric grease on for good measure near any joint

I have this set and I’m very happy with it. Used it on 18” 500, 600s, 14” 650s and a few random ones plenty of times.

They clamp down on one side so it feels a lot less sketchy than the rental type. I think it is the same style as what SPC makes?

I didn't encounter a vacuum line in the air box. Trucks gone now but I guess next time it's back I can look at it. I know it has a cracked vacuum line on the rear drivers side but someone threw a zip tie on it and it fully seat, it's just the end of that line that's cracked.
I didn't, the coils certainly look original though, so I'm sure replacing them isn't a bad idea. $39/es for densos.

I think that may be it. My theory, which I would be curious if you agree with, is that the spark plugs were pretty worn so they probably were creating a weaker spark. The coils themselves are older and weaker. By replacing the plugs, it now has a stronger spark at the plug, but the coil has to work harder to do it, so it's weakness/failure is now apparent.

How hard were the coils to actually physically pull off the plug?

No resistance like I'm used to. Threw some dielectric in there to try and seal them.

It could be a weak coil, typically plugs gapped smaller temporarily hide a failing coil rather than bring it out though. Takes higher voltage to jump a worn wider gap than a short one. But there is an inverse relation to how much heat is generated in the coil too so it's certainly possible it could have killed an already mostly toasted coil. I'd use a scantool with live data to watch the misfire counter and see what cylinder it increments on, barring that you can try to make it set off a CEL by holding it in the stumbling section until it tells you what cyl the persistant misfire is on. Did you gap the new plugs yourself?

And TIL that 3 of my 4 table legs are actually stainless :anonymous:

What's surprising is that it welded just like mild, on 75/25 and I've only ever welded stainless with 98/2 or tri-mix.
