    i have a very quick and possibly dumb question. what should the level of the coolant overflow tank be when cold? im assuming between the low and full marks on the resevoir. thanks

    It obviously fluctuates with engine temperature, but you are fine if it's at or above the low marking on the tank when totally cold.

    And kudos to you for wanting to learn about your engine operations. Most folks these days don't ever pop their hood open and wouldn't know what they are looking at if they did!

    Yes typically you add if the fluid goes below the cold mark when the engine is cold

    btw if you have a 2009 Tacoma, you have a 2nd gen

    Yes it fluctuates depending if its hot or cold .Do keep an eye for this

    LS1 swap with nitros.
    As stated above it should be between low and high marks. If not, you likely have a leak on the water bypass pipe on the back of the block. Common Tacoma 3.5L V6 issue.

    certainly not my first vehicle all other ones the tanks have been labeled cold and not and low or full
