Anyone here do an oil pan on a 3.5l 3rd gen yet? My drain threads are stripped, rather than rethread it id rather just replace it and have one of those fumoto valves installed. Anyone with diy experience that can rate the job?

 

@super_white maybe? That sounds like a lot of work compared to a drill and tap, not gonna lie. I'd just get a bigger Fumoto, they make them for big rigs, chances are you can find a size above the stock tacoma drain plug size that would work well.

 

I think the biggest headache would be if you have to pull the diff to get the pan down enough. If you don't have to remove the diff you may have to remove the pickup tube with the pan still on top of the diff if you can't get enough of an angle

 

I haven’t done one but just the lower pan has to be removed.

 

Its just the lower pan which has nothing in the way other than my skid plate. My only concern is the lack of a gasket and having to use rtv to reseal.

 

A+ this...always going to be cheaper to retap and add a bigger fumoto

 

I wouldn't worry about using RTV. You can get the FIPG which is what Toyota runs or Permatex ultra black would be plenty fine

 

The Registry person called me late today, I have to meet him at the inspection station Thurs afternoon. This is gonna suck no matter how it ends up I'm sure. That said he seemed to lean towards my side of things re the explanation I gave.

You can do it without skids, but I wouldn't lol

 

Best offroading in central mass....Olympia Ave in Shrewsbury...IDK what is going on with this road but Waze sends me on it sometimes when I'm shortcutting around Rt 9....

Here's hoping. Have to dig and figure out the loudest most obnoxious shirt to wear as well.

Hoping to clear this hurdle. I have to get my title fixed next as it listed 4 people 4 doors. Clearly incorrect, so if it gets changed to 2/2 and it happens again my hope is producing the corrected title ends the argument.

 

Finally fixed my truck. It's been down since last Thursday! I've got to say, I hate fixing shit. I really only like improving stuff. That said it does kinda feel good when it's done and I know it was me that fixed it. The added plus is it saved me 40k on trading it in for a new truck. And I'll tell you I was pretty close!

 

I only like motor work if I'm not doing upgrades

 

Also I just got back from trick or treating with the kiddos. For any of you that know the neighborhood I live in it won't be a surprise but we just did a loop around one block in our neighborhood and each of my kids had 10 lbs of candy in their pillowcases.
