I ran across these when I had a problem on my first gen making the wiring harness fit next to the spare tire. I ended up using a cannabilized piece of my old aux backup light brackets, which I made before I had the hitch.

I just had to offset it to the side and to the rear a bit from the stock Hidden Hitch location. It was a different need and application than this ongoing stock 2nd gen problem, but still, you get the idea, and it might help someone.

Hey it worked pointing down for me so no complaints ! :goingcrazy:

    1. When I'm off roading I'm not worried about a trailer plug hanging down.
    2. I'm OK with not moving a license light.
    3. I like the way this looks

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
5 year old thread but quite helpful. Mine got smashed this weekend. It was rusted anyways, so going to fab some steel from Lowes. Appreciate the ideas here gentlemen.

I have a brand new honda rear trailer plug harness I will sell for $50 shipped. There are write ups around here, to take this harness, disassemble your plug and the new one, and swap over the body of the new plug using all your original wires. This is the most cost effective way to get your OEM connector back functioning again. After crushing mine and buying this part, I decided to go with a full high clearance bumper which uses a different plug assembly. What you would want to do is re-mount the whole thing up higher using one of the relocate brackets, or your own bracket. Doing this will get it out of the way, while keeping the OEM plug and water tight seals for the wiring and the connector. Let me know if you want it.

what size is your spare tire and wheel. I need to replace my spare with the same size of wheel and tire and I want to make sure I have enough space.

I have one I no longer use since I have a steel bumper with a built in location for the harness. The relocation bracket saved me several times from repeating the same damage.

If you’d like it, it’s yours for $10 plus shipping. PM me if you’d like to buy it.

I would go with one of these if you plan on replacing it anyways. Best of both worlds.

Glad this zombie thread popped up.
Was wondering how to fix my 2nd gen plug that got smashed at the recent AOAA Invasion. Right now it's just zipped tied and hanging down.

I still have this plug if anyone wants it. As mentioned, this is for a honda, so the connector to the rest of the vehicle doesn't match the tacoma. But, it is the exact same plug and plastic housing assembly on the bumper side as the stock tacoma one, i.e. the part that broke on your plug. So if you want to restore to the toyota plug with the OEM terminals and wiring seals in tact and re-mount to your bumper, or on a THRB for more clearance, you need this part. You can dis-assemble your wires, and this plug, and put it back together the way you want it where you throw away your broken plastic and the honda wiring. Amazon no longer has it, but I paid $50. The dealership still charges a ridiculous price for this part, completely unreasonable.

If you want to splice and hookup to an aftermarket plug, then this is not what you need.
