Keyless locks

I put black door handle covers on my keyless door handles. I put them on and tried the locks before using the adhesive and they locked and unlocked. I used the adhesive strips and snapped them on. Tried the locks again and they locked and unlocked. It sit overnight and I went out the next day and parked, got out of the truck and it wouldn't lock. Had to use the key fob to lock it. It will unlock using the keyless entry but it won't lock. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem? TIA

 

Welcome to TW! Not meaning to be a smart ass, but the problem is the covers I would think. Solution I dunno.

 

I've not heard of this issue before, but I've also never heard of anyone gluing door handle covers on the exterior.

I have no solution for the covers, accept to remove them. However, if you just want black handles, you can order black handle replacements (smart and dumb handles) color match painted from the dealer. I'll find the part numbers for ya, if that's the route you want to go.

Alright, I'll ask a real dumb question. Have you tried standing in different spots or repositioning the fob when testing the door handle?

Mine fails frequently if my fat leg is blocking the fob signal, and that's on an uncovered stock door. (Actually, it's probably bad because I have a lot of soundproofing foam in the door, but the handle is stock.)

If you have done that and it still doesn't work or fails to work often, then it's your covers and you need a different solution to your door bling.

 

The handles contain capacitance sensors. So it's by touch.

The covers might not have the capacitive property.
You may have bought the ones for the standard.

Also, the tape could create a barrier and prevent the sensor from detecting anything.

 

They are suppose to work with b the keyless. That's why I bought them. They worked fine right after I put the on, lock and unlock. The unlock still works great but it won't lock. Really weird.

I don’t see them working without a cutout around the unlock button since, as mentioned earlier, it’s capacitive and needs to make contact with your skin.
Whether or not it worked initially is inconsequential since it doesn’t work now. Your options are to live with it as is or take them off.

 

Good find… OP did you get the ones with the cut outs or not? If no, I think the above posts are right in that the handles need to be touched to work. Or perhaps your key fob remote battery is low on juice… what about the other key fob? Same result?

 

There's no cut out on the handles. I tried my spare key fob and got the same results.

 

Thanks TacoHarp… I think that’s the issue. At least with the handle covers on Amazon, there are two options, one with the cutouts and one without. You need the ones with the cutouts… perhap

 

remove them, they're probably of poor quality and will look like doodoo after a year or so in the elements.
