Damn that looks like fun. I’ve been casually looking for a tw200 or an old xt for a project bike

Well, it isn't really a fixxer upper, but it is a '99 with only 1300 miles!

Still has the original tires on it! I've got some maintenance stuff to do. I've got a front tire at home waiting to go on, have a 15 tooth front sprocket ordered to make cruising at 55-60 a little more bearable.

Put around 100 on it this weekend alone - about half were dirt.

That's an interesting point. I need to research if a leaking rack will contribute to steering shake. I've been using lucas PS Stop Leak for about 2 years now :anonymous:

Also, how have I never seen you around! I grew up in Ephrata and lived in Lancaster for a while!

@El Dahs is the man! I haven't seen him in a while either!

I def want to wheel with you guys at some point!

    Howdy, neighbor!

My leaking rack kept washing the grease out of the inners and killing them. That can certainly add to looseness in the front end! Tires are usually the culprit for a shimmy though.

If you're looking for wheeling, check out the Keystone Cruisers link in my signature. We try to get out as a club monthly, and we aren't much in the way of a "formal" club.

I lived in Ephrata for a number of years - in Lincoln for a while and then over on Sunset near the pool. Moved down near Strasburg almost 10 years ago. I have a few vehicles, so sometimes the Taco doesn't get out much and just chills in the garage for a while.

    Ha!

Jack up the front and check for play. I decided it washes out the grease and then it wears out quickly. That is the only conclusion I could come up with - it always happened on the same side and that was the side that leaked.

New head - either cracked or head gasket blew. Was having rough idle at start and losing a lot of coolant.

Also sent out injectors for cleaning and flow match and did an EGR delete.

You outta try some pink top injectors. They have a much better spray pattern than the browns. Also, if you haven’t already, checkout your intake mani for carbon build up and clean out as much as you can. It makes a a huge difference in how it runs as well

Yeah totally! I used a trick on mine where I sprayed oven cleaner in the runners and let it soak for a while. Then sprayed it out with the pressure washer. All of this with the manifold off the truck of course. It removed about 90-95% of the build up on a 180k motor.

Oh nice. Yea I'm sure that worked well. Good thinking on the pressure washer.

Damn, I'm starting to think the 3rz and 5vz's both have head cracking issues.

They do. They're thin between the valves - you can see a typical crack under the "eye" in my avatar.

Totally sucks. Such an annoying problem. I'm dealing with it on the 5vz right now. I keep wondering, is there anything we can do to prevent it? Like, is there a more efficient coolant out there that can keep the head temperature cooler?

My truck has 290,000. I'd say it performed better than expected! Somethings got to eventually go wrong!

Truck is currently for sale HERE.

I've got a new teen driver and need to get a more practical (automatic) vehicle.

Sorry to see it go, it is a great little truck!
