This is me, also.
Went from an S7 edge to the current S20+5G. Cracked my screen working on the truck so will need to find a place to replace it.
I'm afraid to take the screen protector off as I believe it's acting as a bandaid preventing it from cracking more.
Pissed me off.

I'm bigger on security than I am devices. Always used Webroot.
Never been compromised, hacked or had identity stolen. (Some of which is due to my cautiousness and tinfoil hat ). Using a web3 browser I don't get b.s. ads, plus better security.

I was telling a coworker about this the other day and they had made the comment about free labor. I countered that it was an excellent real world project and a much more valuable learning experience than welding more coupons.

 

I second this. An iPad or an iPad mini running Gaia or OnX off road seems to be the standard overlander solution here in the US.
Garmin makes some dedicated units but they are pricy compared to a less expensive iPad.

Our final year of printing class in high school involved doing all the printing for the school system. That was free labor too, but it gave us real world, practical experience and prepared us for decent paying jobs straight out of high school.

Same here, I use Gazelle when I happen to have an extra item that’s not being used for an apple trade in. That’s becoming pretty rare though.

I still keep on old school paper fold up map in the truck.

 

Because electronics have let me down in times of need I trust paper. My wife just laughs and understands that we will be winging it when I say I used Gaia…

I bought a gps pretty early on, think I only used map quest a couple times.

There’s still some places I’d much rather have physical buttons. Especially over a cheap touch screen with bad software.
