New Falken Wildpeak AT4W ????

Yep, all the size charts I’ve seen so far say the 255 is going to be C rated.

 

I just ordered these tires. $275 each from simpletire. Went with the 255/85/16. I have stock OR wheels right now but am ready to buy some new wheels. Does anyone have any idea how much rub I will have on @SCSPerformance f5s with O offset? I’m on stock suspension for now. Considering going with the -25 but know I’ll probably need a cmc. I have a good off road shop down the road so wouldn’t be too painful but I’d rather not. I love the look of the deeper dish though.

Can’t decide on the dark bronze or gunmetal for my super white truck. Leaning towards the gunmetal to match the OR grille.

Yes, the new at4w in 255/85/16 C load. I couldn’t believe it either, I chatted with customer service to confirm they were actually in stock and they already shipped them. I have been shopping for tires for a few weeks and although these haven’t really been tested or reviewed yet they are exactly what I want as far as being a C load A/T in 255/85/16. I had wildpeaks on my old bronco ii and they were great on the beach out here.

Please do. I saw in your other post you have stock wheels currently. I'm curious if these will fit on my stock wheels/stock suspension on my OR. Sounds like you're shopping for new wheels prior to putting these on though.

 

Yeah I’m pretty sure they would be fine on stock wheels with stock suspension. I just want to have a little poke or at least flush with fender flares.

 

Wheels are ordered from @SCSPerformance. Went with the F5, played it safe (kinda) with the 0 offset. I will update once they are mounted!

 

@Bobweirisajedi curious, the availability of this tire sparked conversation as to how a tire, per Falken (Sumitomo Tire) is still 90 days out for production, and not available for purchase. In contacting the before mentioned competitor, they stated that the Falken Wildpeak A/T4W was not available for order at this time. We strongly recommend verifying the tire you will be receiving. Doesn't seem possible.

 

I was also a little suspicious. I’ve previously had a bad experience with Simple Tire’s customer service so I was wondering what they’re up too in this situation.

 

The new 255/85R16 in C load is the most interesting change in available sizes. It wasn't available for the AT3W if I recall and running a 33" tire on a 16" rim for AT3W meant going with a heavy load range E 285 tire. I'd been looking at a C load 17" tire for my next setup, but a C load 16" would be huge to not have to buy new wheels and having a pizza cutter option would be great to keep performance losses from larger tires/wheels down. My current 32" tires won't wear out for a while yet, but I'll be watching how this size and the AT4Ws turn out as my current tires build up miles towards replacement.

 

I’ve never ordered anything from that site before so I guess we will see. I asked twice if they had them in stock and they said yes both times. I’ll keep everyone updated.

 

I wonder if they only had one set, I don’t see that size listed as available on their site anymore.

 

Perfect, the AT4W 315/70R17 will be available in a C load to replace my current AT3W 315/70R17 in E load which are way too stiff. This truck does not need the GVWR of a 10 ply tire, the only benefit so far has been on the trails where I can run 8psi and they'll still hold bead but I have to run 25 psi on pavement otherwise I can feel every crack and paint line in the road. I'm not light either with steel front bumper, full skids (front, t case, gas tank), rock sliders, bed rack and iKamper RTT with 35" spare in the bed and recovery gear (hi-lift jack etc) along with road shower, ARB awning and Pelican vault case on the roof rack. The Falken pressure chart for 315/70R17 E load starts at 35psi and goes up to 65psi which is overkill whereas for the C load the max psi is 35, major difference.

 

Tracking says they will be delivered on Jan 12. I’m am extremely curious to see what shows up haha.

 

E rated tires require higher PSI than SL or C rated tires for the same load capacity. You are likely running your tires significantly under inflated and well outside of the tires specifications. Should probably be at like 40psi. Ride quality should not be a factor in that calculatuon. If it is, you bought the wrong load rated tires!

 

You made a good move going with 0 offset. Sits nice and flush with the fenders and I am only lifted 1".

As for tire clearance I had to fold the pinch weld and it barely rubbed the cab mount so I just did it.

 

Metric LTs start their capacity ratings at 35PSI whether they are LT C, D, or E and they all need the same pressure to carry the same load. The difference in ride quality felt will be from the thinner sidewall that a C has. It will require the same pressure that a D or E would require to maintain the load.

As Jay said a few posts above, running the 315s at 25 psi due to comfort is way underinflated. You should have them at 35 psi, which is technically above the capacity needed to maintain the load the stock tires can carry at the stock PSI, but since the LTs are not rated at below 35 psi, you should put them to 35. As also stated, comfort is not a factor for where tires should be inflated to. If comfort is a priority, a different tire should be chosen.

The new C tire would be a good choice for you but it will need to be inflated to the same 35 psi that an E should be inflated to.

Holding bead at 8 psi is also not so much about the load of the tire but more about having a rim that is narrow enough to accomplish what you need. An 8-8.5" wide rim is good for accomplishing that on 315s, regardless of C or E.
