Let's see those Alu-cab setups

That is about how long mine took. I think mine was 4.5 hours. Are they including the time to wire up the interior lights of the Contour?

 

the covers definitely. my first snow with it left 2 or 3 frozen and i couldn't unlock them right after brushing off the snow. the covers are nice. bonus it keeps the lock metal free from road salt or whatever they use around here. plus i like the look of the black and less chrome

 

So how are you guys getting your solar wires into your Contours or campers? Was thinking of running it in between the gaps of the front rail and side rail then sealing the gaps back up with butyl tape. Just seeing if there was a better way to do it. Haven't gotten my topper just yet still waiting on shipping. Just trying to plan things out before it arrives.

 

Where are you trying to get your wires to? What product do you have (canopy or contour)?

 

I have a contour on order. Should be here in a month or so. Right now I have solar panels on my roof rack and planning on running it into the bed.

did you do it yourself?
they aren’t including the interior lights in the quote just the 3rd brake light

 

they said wiring the interior lights wasnt included in my original quote when i called to schedule my install. i asked the guy the morning i got there and they didn't charge me any extra.

i'm not sure if they forgot or didnt charge me since i waited like 6 months to get my contour when they originally told me 3.

 

I used these and sealed around them with Sikaflex.

I installed mine myself. It took me probably 4 hours but only because there were manufacturing defects that I had to solve for (OK4WD made me whole again btw and was great to work with); otherwise, it would not have taken more than 2. I'd add another 30-45mins to the install time if your including the brake light in the estimate.

 

I did not do it myself. Mine included the brake light and interior lights. I dropped it off in the morning and it was done early afternoon.

 

I installed the Alu-Cab Explorer Canopy myself (and two friends to lift) in about two hours.

What kind of defect did you have? I have a deposit on one to deliver to me for right now but am still considering going to a dealer.

I have a plug and play harness already in place at the tail light so I think I would just have to tie into the shell

 

How are you getting the wire into the bed?

There is a small cut out hidden in the sheet metal just under the bed rail cover that I used to pass the wire through and fished it into the tail light area, with the bolt removal it took maybe 10 minutes and is easy to tidy up with some zip ties

 

Several rails had powder coat that was too thick and I couldn't pass a bolt into the t track. On one side the t track was actually pinched and I couldn't even get the bolt thread to pass through. Had to ream out the channel to get it to fit.

 

Just FYI, you have to remove each lock/latch assembly from the canopy to get these installed. Not a big deal, just a ratchet and 30 minutes type deal. Well worth it though. I was afraid they would dry rot or come loose and flap going down the road, but still good as new 3 years in.
