I'm brand new here. I'm looking at a new 2023SR5 and was wondering what a good tire size would be. Maybe the good year wrangler duratrac

I’m pretty happy with this size.

i'm a little confused. you ask for tire size, but then give a specific tire model?

are you looking for tire model recommendations or tire sizing recommendations? also, what's your use-case?

Our tacos run slower than the speedo says, by default?
    I didn’t realize that.
I might have to go with 265/75s when my OEMs wear out.

You know what they say about Goodyear tires, they're only good for about a year.

Joking aside, 265/75/16 if you have 16" wheels, and 265/70/17 if you have 17" are the biggest you can fit "stock". I just recently upgraded my SR steelies to Method 703's in 17x8.5" +0 offset and tires to 265/70/17, no rubbing at all stock (pics in build thread in signature). Anyway, tons of info on this forum. Check this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/stock-tacoma-with-265-70-17-pictures-please.594730/page-20

IMO 265/75/16 or if you have 17" wheels 265/70/17 are the best compromise size. The overall dimensions of those are virtually identical, just made for 16" or 17" wheels.

Those sizes are about 1" taller than stock and about 3/4" wider than 245/75/16's which are the most common factory size. That is just big enough to look a little better with no real downsides. In fact, they are often priced cheaper than the factory sizes. If you go any bigger, you'll start a domino effect of having to make changes to the truck. Change one thing and you end up having to change others.

You end up with non-factory parts that don't last as long, you'll see reduced power unless you also go to the expense of changing axle gearing. And you'll see reduced fuel mileage and any bigger tires only come in much more expensive LT ratings which ride rougher.

They’re off by about 3% so negligible, but even if they were off by 10% that mph difference would change with your speed. There’s no set number :)

Thank you all for the responses. As I said, I’m new here. I want to get a bigger, more aggressive tire, but I don’t want to modify the truck. I’m really excited about the new truck but the tires have to go. The 265/75/16 seems to be a very popular size for my needs. The truck will be my daily driver and I hunt so I want a daily driver/hunting tire for Michigan. Aggressive but not mudder, any recommendations?

I have the Yokohama Geolandar GO15s on my daily driver F150. Quiet, seems it hasn't affected my MPGs, rides great, 3 peak mountain snowflake rated and very mild. My buddy also has them on his F150 and says the same thing and we both recommend them! They did great in blizzard like conditions this winter here in IL.

Like many manufacturers, the speedo features a bit of a buffer to help prevent speeding. Almost all manufacturers do this to some degree. The odometer, however, is correct. So swapping to the tires that correct the speedo, starts to short the miles on the odometer a bit. Which I guess some like because it slows the mileage count a tiny bit.

In stock form the “error” in the speed reading is like when it says 72, you’re going 70.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
These don't get much love on TW, but I ran the Bridgestone A/T Revo 3's for a couple of years. Good in all conditions, including that MI snow (that I don't miss shoveling). They have a semi closed outer tread which makes them quieter on the road and a good tread pattern that cleans out well. The only reason I don't run them now is that I off road as much as I can, and I blew two sidewalls on rocks. Now I just run the KO2's.
