Same here, I have two bottles behind the rear seat in the cubby. I’ve been bitten by a bad fillup before.

I brought a case. depending on your route you can get pretty deep filling on 92 but need to carry 20-25 gallons of extra gas. There are a couple 200+ mile stretches with only 87/88. or if you have a long range tank you could get away with less. also even with 92 wasn’t bad to add booster but there are a ton of VP racing, chevron, shell etc there is the local brand I can’t recall. It was more the super remote spots where there is one station or guys with jugs for sale. Rule of thumb if you see 92 fill up even if you just did. 1st time I went broke that rule as we thought there was another. Ended up having to put 8X in with booster. Last trip maybe one jug but we did much better. I had alot more spare gas that time.

I took my KTM to Baja which required premium. Only once did I have to do the side of the road jug fill and it was less than half a tank so I stayed light on the throttle and it was ok. Plans for the taco supercharged would to bring octane boost as well as a way to remove the supercharger belt or zip tie open the bypass valve along with bringing the laptop to load a temporary tune to stay safe if need be.

    Thanks for following up.

Last question, rough ETA for the cert? Certainly, no one here could expect you to have an exact date, but rough eta (÷ or - months) would be nice. If for nothing else, something to keep us interested parties with an eye on the horizon.

    Cheers

Honestly the octane is good ebough. I had to run a tank and I just kept it light and didn’t have any issues. I thought about tune and such but didn’t need to.

I live in CO and currently have KDMax and the setup to flash my own ECU. How does becoming compliant work if I were to switch to OTT?

Do I just buy and flash and then get sent paperwork and sticker? Is there any guarantee it will work in CO?

Correct. You'll have to purchase the OTT-CE tune pack for your truck (an email to info@overlandtailor.com will get the process started once you're ready)

Once you've purchased the tune pack, we'll enter your information into our database and you'll be sent the associated paperwork and placard sticker alerting the technician doing the SMOG check that your tune is approved.

Just an FYI, we're currently SEMA-CE certified with the calibration, with our CARB-EO status pending (at present time). It's a lengthy process, but we're well underway, and we expect to have EO status here shortly. Once that's obtained, we can guarantee it will be compliant in CO since they are adopting CARB standards, and we'll have their approval.

My OTT tune was done in 4/2022… will I need a re-flash to get the compliance paperwork?

Short answer - Yes. You would need to visit your tuner for the update or reach out to us via email if you have your own flashing equipment. There is a nominal fee of $50 for the certified tune.

This would be a nice upgrade from the file you're on. :)

and for the possibility of not having to re-flash (not saying to not have the software/ture noted) you could use the roadside emissions stations and see if your registration renewal notice says "passed." you need to have two passing tests (which you won't know you passed until you receive the registration renewal notice) completed at least 60 days prior to your renewal date, and they cannot be from the same roadside station on the same day. Station locations for each week/day are posted on the Air Care Colorado website. GL.

I am trying to re-flash my 2023 ECU back to stock with the latest VF Tuner; but am finding that the CVN does not match the original that I recorded before getting OTT.
Original was E2EB5C1C, but now reports as E2EBA3E3.
There was a reply previously that noted the "true" stock file for 04C21 had not been issued at that time; I guess it still has not?
The latest version has a file date of 2021-05-29
I just erased my supported vehicles folder and re-downloaded the software; but the result is the same.
Has anyone else had better luck with that one?

Files for the newer trucks are not updated. My guess is that because this problem is really only showing up on trucks 6 years or older, it’s not really an issue yet. So the “stock” files haven’t been updated.

Thanks for that BLtheP, that's obviously disappointing after buying the dongle and license in order to return it to stock when desired.
My concern was more dealer/warranty related than emissions testing; but I snuck the question into this discussion as it seemed to have the most info on the topic.

I’d like to see an update for sure. I’m actually back on the stock tune anyways just due to some characteristics I like best. Kinda sucks knowing I’m not actually back to stock. Makes me want to grab a stock ECM but that’s a whole road I don’t really feel like going down.

So the “stock” tune technically isn’t for all but the oldest 3G’s? Or just the check numbers still don’t match? Disappointing either way but one is a little less comforting than the other.

I believe it’s “stock” from the standpoint of operating the engine the same as the factory programming did. It sure feels that way anyways. The CVN doesn’t match for sure, except on the older ones that have been recently been fixed. My guess is all of the ECU ID variants of the stock files will be fixed slowly over time as trucks get old enough for it to matter as far as passing the tests goes. It is a bit annoying that “stock” isn’t truly stock. You’d think since that is known now, there would be some urge to fix them all.

One would think. But without knowing how much work this actually is to execute, and having worked on some things that were way more complex/time consuming than you’d think, I have some reservations about criticizing a sluggish rollout..but..
