i called OTC Tools this morning and asked for the cost of a 7503 ball joint remover. The cost is $120. Is there somewhere I can buy the tool for around $60? $120 is just too much for a one-time use. This is the tool:

I can also buy mail-order this cheapo kit for $50, but I have no idea where it comes from.

    Any ideas?

I just finished replacing LBJ’s and used a kit I bought from Amazon. Cheap kit, as in trash. I was able to complete the job but I returned the kit. I’m going to keep my eyes out for a quality used kit.

I think you can rent a kit for free at Anal Zone.

Why not rent the free kit from the auto parts store? Advance has the best one. I just changed out UBJs and theirs had every adapter you could think of

This is what I did. Basically you purchase the kit and you have a week to return it to get a full refund. The Advance Auto in my area keeps 4-5 kits on their shelf.

Yesterday I visited Autozone and O'Reilly. The rubber mats they have that show loaner tools do not show the five-tool kit. The only kits they show for ball joint removal are the ones with one big C-clamp and a lot of heavy cylindrical adapters (or pushers). Neither had the kits containing the five different tools, nor did their stores stock them.

So I bought one of Amazon's "Best Seller" kits and will see if/how it works when it arrives next Tuesday.

I would have gone the rental route too. At O'Reilly they have a policy, rent it and if you want to keep it just let us know so we can re-order one. I now have pullers for both ball joints and TRE's (different sizes.) The one for TRE's needed a little dremel work to properly slip on.

Make sure you have a BAH on hand and start soaking them in PB blaster now until your tools get here. I found getting them apart (and the TRE's) was the most difficult part.

I called Advance Auto and that company had the 5-tool ball joint kit that I could borrow. I had to buy the kit (ca $160) but if I return it within 45 days (1.5 months) I would get a full refund if nothing was missing or broken. Not bad for a brand new kit. I used the tool shown in my initial post and did not have any problems with it.
