Water on door sill

Every time it rains I have water drops on my driver and passenger door sill. I don't think this is normal because it's trapped between the seals. If it wasn't for the sill protector I think this could be a rust issue or in the winter he could also cause a freeze condition. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or is this normal and I'm being paranoid?

I see nothing to be concerned about.

 

on the bottom of your door are drain holes around those area's.

at the top of the door, there's a window that rolls down, with an imperfect seal. the consequence of having roll-down windows is that water naturally rolls down the glass, past the seal, and into the door panel. that water must evacuate the door somewhere at the bottom, which is what you're seeing.

every vehicle with roll-down windows has the same feature.

 

You’re good. That water is outside of the sealed area of the vehicle. Drive in a heavy rain and you’ll have moisture in that same area as well.

 

This seal keeps water out of the cabin. Everything else is just for wind noise.

 

I'm aware of the weep holes at the bottom of a door which I believed on most doors to be at the very bottom as I have pointed out by the red arrow if that is the weep hole as it's been pouring all day today. That's where they are located on my Xterra. My concern is what the water I'm seeing that seems to be weeping where the plastic meets the metal on the door (blue arrow) leaving the spots on the sill.

 

I would pull the trim up and spray some rust inhibitor in the creases and around that area. Along the entire lower door jam and sill. Then clip the trim back up. Very easy to do and cheap insurance incase it does rust.

 

If your Midwest it will rust. Alot of complaints of the door jam rusting by the door sill. Fyi

 

There's a TSB about doorsill rust in that area. Your truck is new enough that the mitigation should be in place from the factory. But worth doing some preventative treatment as described above if you plan to keep it a long time.

 

Just be warn tho if you decide to spray anything on there. Toyota will void your warranty

 

You’re concerned that it’s going to eat through the door sill protector and then corrode the metal underneath?
If your rainwater is an issue I must be really fucked, because that’s where the rock salt and melted snow mixture from my floor mats drains for 6 months a year...
Nothing to be concerned about, especially since you seem to keep your vehicle detailed.
Edit: Looking at your second pic I am wondering where it’s coming from. Rain water should be draining from the lower holes. The water on the sill isn’t concerning but it coming from that spot on the door might be. Those are definitely weep holes to drain water, but how is that much water getting between the plastic covering the door and the interior panel? Could the lower weep holes be plugged? Do you hear water sloshing in the door?

 

Stupid, but normal. Sadly. My theory is water drips from window seals onto the speaker in the door, then weeps out between the speaker and door and onto the sill. I’ve seen this on a few Tacomas. If I ever have the door panels off again, I’ll seal around the speaker frames and hope for the best.

It got past the first seal, but it won’t get past the second hopefully. They are designed this way. Don’t ever go to ford, you’ll have a bog pit in your foot area.

 

No sloshing sound just the dripping sounds when the rain is a light enough mist so you don't hear it outside of the vehicle just inside the door. I'm coming up on my first service in about 800 miles. I will definitely bring it to their attention for all that's worth.
I really don't want to be pulling door panels off yet until I document the issue where I see the water up near the plastic part of the door. I agree the water should exit from the lowest weep holes and perhaps the rust proofing measures they take may have clogged them?

 

My thought process was that there would be standing water in the bottom of the door, overflowing and coming out of the holes you’ve pictured, but it’s only because I read about that happening to someone on here. It would definitely be an amount you could hear if that was the case. I’m having a hard time picturing how else water would be coming from there but other comments don’t seem to worried about it.

If that plastic has an opening somewhere, it could be allowing water to drip out of these upper weep holes.

 

Same condition. By far it’s the worst on my driver door. Only a drop or two on the others. Not sure to what extent is “normal,” however I have a feeling the water coming out between my door panel and door shell is not normal. My guess is somehow water gets in the door and then gets on the other side of the plastic sheet and then runs down the door panel. Or maybe the water gets through the speaker as stated above. Probably the butyl as mentioned in the other thread…I had to disturb it for some mods and that stuff never sticks very well after that. Plus I think it actually wasn’t stuck properly on to begin with from what I remember.

Definitely nothing wrong with the weep holes or water sloshing in the doors, this is water routing its way to where it’s not supposed to go.

good thing is, I don’t think it really matters because 1) I don’t live in a dusty area and 2) it appears the weather seal in the door frame seals to the plastic door panel so I think I’m good on weatherproofing.
