I think @Bishop84 did awhile back but no one seemed interested in changing it.

Did the drain and refill of my transmission fluid today using the new Scan Guage 3
Pulled the level check plug at 112F on the pan temp. She shifts perfectly! Mounted it up using an aluminum bracket I fabed up.
    Definitely liking the new Guage

I have a 2014 base model w/2.7l engine. Trying to do a drain/refill with ATF. I have no overflow valve on the reservoir and on all the tapes I've seen, there is usually the drain plug and overfill plug facing downward. If I have no overflow valve, is there some other alteration in the fill plug, too? I can't find the refill plug despite looking and looking. Whass up?

I think 4 bangers have a dip stick and don't use WS compliant fluid. So if you have a dip stick, just check the dipstick when the truck is running and make sure the fluid level is between the high and low marks.

Interested in this. I've got a 2.5 gen 4cyl 4spd and wana do mine but haven't located a good write up for this. Welp, time to browse thru 100 pages of possible answer (unless its the same deal minus having a dipstick and only one bolt down low)

I see the TSB says 2005-2008 listed as the years with the change. Is it just those years or all second gen’s? I see the trans are A750E and F. I’m not sure which trans I have in my 2015 trd sport A/T.

Great article, nicely done. I found this by watching a Tacomaholic Youtube video on the same subject. I thought I would throw in my experience as I have seen some ask the question on this thread but not really any answers.

And that is: I couldn't get the A/T Temp light to go away when trying to get into the mode. It stayed solid. I did drive the truck in the morning but it sat in the driveway for 7 hrs before I drained the old fluid and attempted to get into A/T Temp mode. The truck was cool and drain pan was cool. I gave up and decided to try in the morning to see if I saw the same.

The next morning I got into A/T Temp mode straight away, first try (light went out after 2 seconds). I put the timer on it and took 28 min for the light to go solid and shooting a temp at the pan was consistent 99 degrees. All good!

One more thing to add, I had my Tacoma serviced at 60,000 miles and got the transmission "flushed" at the dealership, I now have 145,000 miles. Some of the miles, ~15,000 miles, are towing a 4,000 lb RV around the western US and a whole lot of mountains so I that is why I wanted to do this procedure. I was surprised that I only got 2 qts out when draining. I decided to go back with 3 qts back in and that was perfect as a trickle started flowing for a few seconds (probably ~1/8 cup). Looks like the dealership wasn't close on the refill part back when it had 60,000 miles... So should be good now.

I use an obd2 scanner for the transmission temperature.

Did you have to use an expensive scan tool/gauge? Which one?

No it was cheap and I just got the following scan tool below and installed the transmission temp reader, which was found on here, for the iPhone OBD Fusion app:

    I've got a 2015 prerunner a430e (dip stick)

Since its not the electronic trans (iirc) the temp check thing isnt necessary correct?

So just drain it when warm (30 min after a drive?) And fill new fluid the exact amount that came out - fire up, shift thru gears, check the dip stick - add if necessary?

I've looked all over here and the interwebs and it all comes back w the 2 plug trans w the temp check bs... so wana make sure I'm gravy. About to drain and fill tomorrow

If you have the 4 cylinder then I believe you have a dipstick so it doesn’t use WS and you do not have to perform the temp check, if you have a 6 cylinder (4.0 liter) you have to do the temp procedure or have a scan tool that shows the transmission temperature, and then perform it that way.

This might have been answered already but for the 2wd prerunners, I just started this and looks like I only got 1qt out from the drain. Is that normal before I start to refill with the same amount?
