Help me hunt on the cheap side. Im looking to buy a crossbow with plenty of power to nock down a hog at 50 yards. I don't mind it being heavy and hard to pull back, as long as its got the power at a low price. Also, help a man out and guide him to some bolts and broad heads. Ideally, it’ll be on eBay. 90% of the time I will be making 30-50yd shots on javelina, coyotes and hopefully a big fat hog.

I forgot to add, I know nothing of bow/cross bow hunting. Im an avid rigle hunter, but never even shot a bow. Hopefully by next year Ill be interested enough to get into compound bows.

Try archerytalk.com for lots of used bows. Get a compound one not straight limbs. Barnett is a great brand.

    Good luck with your choice.

I've been using a Tenpoint Venom since 2015 when I can longer use a compound because of disabilities.
It shoots 20 to 50 yds dead on and 60 1 inch low. It's fast and accurate.

That said, I will not take a shot over 40 yds.under any circumstance.
It's still a bow, of sorts, so why risk a shot at a long distance.

    But... That's only my opinion.

Looks like a good option to me. Like @wilcam47 said, cocking a crossbow aint no joke, take all the help you can get.

Also, and Im not trying to be 'that guy' or a drama queen here but....
Two guys I work with have lost fingers from crossbows, so be careful.
Im not trying to deter you in the least bit, just trying to help you out.
Also, both guys admitted that it was entirely their fault, they put their fingers where the weren't suppose to. And I'm reasonably confident that at least one of them (if not both) were drunk when that happened. o_O

Long story short...keep yer digits away from the string and you'll be perfectly fine.

I'm assuming you're talking about wild boar.....?? Whatever you end up with: Practice Practice Practice, before you go out. You think a Black or Brown bear, or a Fisher is a nasty, ill tempered animal??? Combine all three and you're at about 45% of a wild boar. I recommend hunting from a Jeep, so when you miss, it's tusks will go through the sheet-metal of the Jeep instead of you. The first broadhead will likely just aggravate him and bounce off if he/she is coming straight at you, the second MIGHT bring him down. And if it's a Mama pig with little piglets running around everywhere: Multiply everything by 500%. Nasty, ill tempered, and deadly no warning stealth attack (except for the "outrage" noise) when it bursts out of the low brush and weeds 20' away.... (They're smart too.)

    Good luck

"Who mourns for Adonis?" Greek mythology ... Athena and Diana fall in love with Adonis (a mortal) and decide on "shared custody". Once while with Diana (goddess of the hunt, who made his hunts mostly successful) Adonis takes on a full-size boar ALONE with just a spear ... you guess the rest ... the Greeks knew how that ends.

    concur^^
When you are going with those speeds its best to follow what the manufacturer says. The 20" might be too light and affect accuracy

Out of curiosity why do you want to go from rifle to bow? I’m a rifle hunter (and shotgun hunter for waterfowl). I’ve practiced with friends with bows but never hunted with one. From what I’ve seen to have any accuracy at all you need to practice practice practice and practice some more. I’ve seen 2 cases of wounding with bows where the animal ran off and was never found. It was ugly. I’m definitely not against bow hunting, many of my friends are bow hunters. I’m just saying you need to get your accuracy mastered and know your limitations as far as distance of shots. Yes the same apply to rifle hunting to.

South Texas/Northern Mexico has very different hunting from what you're used to.
