After applying a considerable amount of force I still can’t get it to break loose. I thought I had a 6 point 19 mm socket but it seems to have gone all 10 mm and disappeared so I’m using a 12 point. Did not want to go overboard and spin the socket but I tried with enough force that it should have broken free. Never had one this tight. I was working with the motor cold , maybe I should have warmed it up a little, done know. Any thoughts?

    Assuming you have a 4.0
I used a 3/8" breaker bar to loosen mine.
When you put in, hand tight plus about a 1/2 turn.
Where I retired from they even developed torque specs for pipe fittings. In most cases hand tight plus 1/2 to 3/4 turn works.

Mine was definitely tight but I also used a 3/8 breaker bar and got it to break loose. Warming the engine up first probably wouldn’t hurt.

What are you replacing it? They rarely fail these days, just leave it alone

The PCV is definitely something that should be replaced periodically.

Meh, it's kind of an outdated maintenance item these days. It's a throwback to old pushrod engine designs with blow-by and crankcase pressure issues.

They just don't get clogged like they used to back in the day.

There's a reason they glue those things into the valve cover. They're just not designed to be replaced all the time

I remove, clean, and reinstall mine every 10,000 miles (every other oil change). Torque is 20 ft. lbs.

When I changed the PCV on my wife's Subaru Crosstrek (which runs perfect and didn't have any symptoms of a bad PCV) at 65k miles it was definitely gummed up, had some oil on it and would not rattle. Yes, I probably could have cleaned it and reused, but I definitely would not have been comfortable putting it back in there in the condition it was in. For a $15 part from the dealer, it made sense to just replace it. The PCV for my Tacoma is even cheaper, so I will personally continue to replace them as a maintenance item every 50k or so.
