Dude , I paid 1000 the first time it happened to me. That was my deductible. And all they did was buy a used one and slapped on my truck and the charged insurance company over $2500.

they are keeping the criminals in business and we have to pay for it . This time I just got a used one . And I’m going to try my best not to have it stolen. But I don’t know what exactly to add to the tailgate. I was thinking of getting it enclosing of that space.

I just slapped a hose clamp on. It's still there.

    Just be preemptive, not subjective.

    You'll live longer. Insurance sucks.

Sorry for OP I know several people that have had theirs disappear.

The bad part is if they get it once they usually will come back and try again.
Being realistic about thieves is not negative. Its smart.
(father was state trooper for 40 years)

Anything sheet metal is no match for a pry bar. The solid ones break when hit with a hammer.
Anything can be defeated, the ones I have seen they cut the cables if they are washered or have ties on them.
Someone already said it: if they want it they will take it, the idea is to try and make it harder for them.
    Good Luck op.
