I needed “laughing with milk spraying out of nose” emoji on that one.

 

One of my reasons for bolt ons is to avoid having freshly exposed metal on the frame and the possibility of not getting it properly repainted, given the history Toyota has with frames... It just seemed a great way to avoid causing side effects.

I could have used that emoji when I heard "oh, it's a boy" as a clump of mud shot out of my tailpipe at Tigerton! I still laugh about that.

 

Understandable, that's why I went with bolt-on. Fluid Film/Woolwax would protect the recently welded area just fine, though.

 

Agreed, you've done stuff a lot of 4x4s haven't...without you even selecting 4x4.

Nope, I’m missing the season opener this year. You guys have fun. And hopefully you have good weather.

Although, it’s always fun in some manner regardless of the weather. Last year it was beautiful 70 and 80 degree beginning the weekend, and a massive beautiful snowstorm on the way home. It was crazy weather, but at least very memorable!

In the spirit of poor financial planning, I decided to order a battery for my future solar setup. It's a little late now to ask for opinions, but does anyone have experience with these batteries? Opinions?

I’ve heard they make good stuff.

 

I suppose it will match the solar panel and controller I got from @taoist . I doubt I'll be able to use it next weekend. But, maybe it will be set up by summertime.

 

Renogy makes good stuff. Should be good to go. Plus side: CHEAP and likely quite reliable, can handle cold temps better than lithium. Downside: lower depth-of-discharge versus lithium (50% DoD), low max charging current (30A), heavy. All depends what your usage plans are for it but for the basics I see no problems. Nice find.

 

I told mine they were a stronger step, before I got my sliders.
After they were on I got a bit of a from her, then I went with the protect from door ding thing.

 

I wonder how that WW Hard-on would be on sliders?

 

In order of ascending durability by type in my experience:

Rattle cans - Rustoleum professional grade in the silver cans. Steel-it is overpriced and half the cans don’t work out of the box. Warm in a hot water bath before application for best results.

Brush on - Rustoleum pro grade again but thinned down a bit so it will lay flat without brush streaks. Seems to dry harder than the rattle can and cares less about surface prep. My go to on the Tacoma so I don’t have to fight overspray.

Spray gun - Eastwood 2k ceramic chassis black. It’s expensive but a true pro grade 2-part urethane paint that holds up insanely well. I used it on the back half of the truck a couple years ago and it’s held up better than anything I’ve ever used before.

 

To add to this, Ace hardware flat black enamel/paint/primer combo is ridiculously sturdy as well.
