my knowledge is limited as well, but I have reached out to the OF4WD coordinator who has been communicating with the other groups across Canada to get this moving. I will try and make a new thread in the Canada section try and get everyone on here on board once I get more information.

I am. But I can't tell you range. I suppose it doesn't really matter to me as I'm never particularly far from whoever else I'm talking to. Why do you need a 275 and 105?

Ordered from across the border? Or have a link? Tired of radios running out of batteries.

eBay. I got it for $65 CAD new in box lol. It was unintentionally labelled as a CB radio so I'm not sure how it's processed at the border. Whether they care or not. Just because you can't legally use it, I don't think it's inherently illegal to own. I do feel better with low power being 3w that I'm not egregiously breaking the law. Switch to 5w if I'm feeling froggy

Fair I enough. I won’t tell, was genuinely curious as I was looking for one. Like I said, hate the battery life and having to remeber to pack them. Would be nice to just have them ready to go

Then everyone else's battery dies and you're just talking to yourself

@Emanresu mentioned in pg1 he ordered his from the US. As long as the seller is willing to ship, CBSA doen't care about the type of the radio at the border, only that you pay any applicable duties and taxes lol.

I have the 275 for many years & most of the time I’m close by to my group too when we go out. The 105 was a good deal and I just want to have an extra radio in case someone need it. I know, everyone should be responsible for their own stuff, but it’s always 1-2 who don’t have their radio for what ever the reason.

anyway, I’ll test it out on my next trip (unknown when yet).

ISED has enough on their plate without worrying about power levels on imported GMRS radios. I've seen them go after truckers using LADD and other off-road channels out of their intended use area but it's because some channels are used for public safety elsewhere in Canada.

We've got coyote chasers who regularly show up on marine channels but nothing happens to them.

In case anyone want to know the range of the mxt105, mxt115, mxt275, and gxt1000. I tested with my brother who live about 4 miles away. Since the signal travel thru houses, trees, building, etc, this range is pretty good. I’m sure it can go further if we were at opposite end of the street in a straight line with less building in between.

The handheld gxt1000 (5w) was very static at 1.3 miles was a disappointment. I thought at 5 watts it would go further.

The mxt105 was pretty good comparing to the mxt115/mxt275. Almost at 4 miles and you can hear the person with a lot of static.

Fixed mount marine band radios are a better way to go in Canada, if deep in the bush. Magmount whip antenna on the roof. Keep the tx power on the lowest setting but no problem to increase to 25W in an emergency.

Tons of great options under $300 even brand new. Get one with GPS.

Your portable radios aren't USB rechargeable?

They are. When they start to die it gets annoying on the trail. Would rather have them hardwired. Just me being lazy and having one less thing to worry about before going on the trail
