I'd say the Roosts for regular trail riding unless you specifically want a super stiff shoe. The Roost stiffness is about the same as any other flat MTB shoe I've tried. The sizing seems pretty close, I usually wear a 12 to 12.5 in most brands in the 46 euros fit perfectly. Width wise I'd say run on the narrow-ish side. Hope that helps.

I'm not above buying used stuff If any of yall have gear you're done with/cant fit anymore that would fit someone with 32" waist and 33" ish inseam. I can make shit work if Its got belt loops. Stupid that alot of these pants dont. I did just find some fox ranger shorts on marketplace for 15 bucks tho so thats a W.

My old costco weatherproof shorts and pants are all borderline too small for me now. Who thought I'd keep growing into my junior year of college.

 

I had a pair of Zoic Ether AM. I used it for biking, swimming and so on. They were the shorts of the summer until I melted the zipper in the clothes drier. They run small so size up.

 

they're sized weird. weird fit. i'm about a 31" wasit with a 32" inseam and they're a tiny bit long on me and a tiny bit wide on the waist for me. but hey, for the price, i'm not complaining too hard. i can make it work.

 

I'm thinking my answer is thrift store for T shirts and long sleeve T's. Shorts I'll just make due and keep an eye on marketplace. Gloves and goggles I just buy shit when it's on sale at the moto stores. Both of those are basically consumables so I have no shame buying $20 gloves and goggles meant for "motocross". Same shit really

 

I have given an unforetold amount of nice Moto and MTB gear to Goodwill. Awaiting the day to see someone riding around in my shit. I recently dropped off a 1pc Alpine star track suit , a two-piece suit, a Shark helmet, and some Sidi boots. Someone was definitely stoked.

 

I think pants are worth buying 1 or 2 pairs to know they fit right and lightweight but can hold up at least 2 crashes. Shirts I’m convinced any hard crash is holes in a shirt so I’ll wear whatever. And gloves and goggle lenses just get torn up.

 

No name brand active wear works great for budget jerseys. I used to buy old navy performance wear stuff on sale and get "jerseys" for like $10 each.

 

sierra is a good place to look for deals too. harder if youre average size, but there can be some good things found there.

i have a ton of nike athletic shirts i got when i used to work at a dicks sporting goods. now im wearing hurley tech tees from sierra that feel a little more comfortable and were cheaper than the nike stuff i got years ago. all personal preference though.

 

These $ 15 ranger shorts I just got on marketplace also double as shorts for work in the summer lol. If I can run 12 miles in em I can ride my bike in em. Win win

I have fat shorts and skinny shorts. At this point I may need fatter shorts.

 

My riding gear consists of a lot of Rock Bros stuff or whatever else I find on Amazon. I did recently find some Ranger shorts on sale and really like them, same with Ketl (Ketl isn’t cheap but they’ll fix your clothes if you tear them up). For foul weather riding (cold/wet), I did spend the money to invest in some decent gear.

 

I read this article a while back, decided to give them a shot. Definitely do the job and don't do too bad for wearing après.

I can second the Wrangler ATG pants from Target. They are decent price and work well for riding.

I have two pairs of the Handup AT+ pants. Actually 3 pairs, one pair is on the snug side when I ordered the size I thought I should be. The sizing is a bit odd, but they fit me decent once I figured out what size I was. I think they are a bit nice for trails, that was why I got the Wranglers.

I also picked up some of the Handup AT shorts during their last sale. The fabric is definitely different from the AT+ pants, fit is still odd, and they are a little heavy. Not sure I will wear them through the summer but when it cools back down they are fine.

I'm in Florida, we have "outlet" stores all over the place so I just get cheap athletic shirts at the NorthFace or Columbia outlet and they work well for here. I do have a nicer smart wool merino MTB shirt that I really like but I'm not paying that price again. One OTB and it has holes in it. It is still serviceable so I keep wearing it. Some of the REI branded athletic shirts can be caught on sale at decent prices also.

 

These are nice and stretchy and have been pretty durable. I read somewhere else that the Commencal DH team uses the same company for their pants.

If you don't have a ton of gear back there you might be able to just lay the bike down in the bed. I did that for years before getting a camper. No need for tailgate pad then, and it'll work with the cover folded back since only the handlebar sticks up.

 

Anyone have input on replacing a rivnut for a water bottle holder? One of the existing rivnuts in the frame came loose and doesn't even grab onto the frame hole anymore - removed it so I do not do any more damage.

I did the method of utilizing a M5 bolt with a washer and nut to tighten it up, but that didn't do anything other than spin it in place (was able to snug up the other rivnut so it definitely works). If I get a new rivnut, is the tool the preferred method of setting compared to the homemade compression bolt I have?

Was thinking of ordering this, but for only needing to use it once - seems like a trip to the LBS to set it may be more cost effective long term. I guess with this tool I can finally add another water mottle cage to my hardtail:
