Anyone know if this part number will work with mounting a factory front camera to trail edition grill?

I just got delivered the same oem grille. thought I was being clever and getting a good deal on a factory part - didn't realize it had the camera hole... Now I'd like to put a camera in there. I see there are a few aftermarket options such as the one from Tacoma Lifestyle and also from Anytime Backup Camera.com. Both of these seem to just be add-ons and not able to work with the cutout in the oem grille. Anyone have any luck finding a non-oem camera option that will work in the oem grille?

You'll need something like Anytime to be able to hook a camera up to your stereo screen. I like the TrailGrid Pro with the plug and play harness. I found it easy to install. There is another thread that show how I set it up. I put the supplied camera in that hole and it shows what needs to be shown. I do have a different camera I plan to try that would provide a more factory look.20230821_111214.jpg ws

That looks funky, any way to trim the oem base, or hit it with a sander to lower it

I got the R4T anytime front/rear cam.....one of the many things I need to install.

I don't want to alter the grille. I did buy a Rayoo camera from Amazon that fits the hole better, I haven't wired it to try it yet. I also want to make sure it can see right in front of the bumper, which my current setup does, so function over form.

It looks like you’d be able to read the license plate....I hear you though, I guess see hie the other cam works out.

I have a Demello front bumper with a low hoop, I’ll probably have to mount mine high up to see over it.

I want to try a different camera, but am having a hard time finding a connector that's the same as what's supplied with the kit. I'm wiring the connector to the camera, but the one supplied with the kit doesn't have a collar and all the ones I've found on Amamzon have a collar that doesn't allow it to connect. I'd rather not replace both side of the connector. Pictures below. Any leads on where I can get a connector like the one supplied would be great. Thanks!

Seems I’ll be attempting to tackle it myself. I’m wondering if it’s possible to the the end of one camera and souder wires the get the correct connector on a different camera. A bit of work but I feel like it’s possible.

so you ended up mounting the camera in front of the cut out it looks like then? I wish I could figure out if I could order and wire up an OEM one but I doubt it you’d need that switcher etc which dumps us all back at the connector issue

You can definitely cut the wire and solder the wires. I didn’t want to change much in case the new camera was worse.

Yes, I mounted to the front of the camera cutout. It does what it’s supposed to do, show the front of the truck, but isn’t a completely clean look. I think the factory camera is pretty expensive. I haven’t seen anyone else do that, so not sure which of the wires you would tap.

it just plugs in and stays in place. I believe there is a screw on the back that holds it.
