oh man, you guys will like this one. I didn't do anything except take it to the dealer this morning, let my experience be a warning to everyone. Finally got the axle nut recall remedy notice in the mail yesterday so I called to schedule an appointment. I get there this morning, guy tells me I haven't used my free services yet (I'm at 12.5k), yep I'm aware, I do all my own maintenance, so just here for the recall. 45 mins goes by and they call my name, service manager tells me there's been an "incident" with my truck, nice....

Porter apparently clipped my truck's front bumper on the chainlink fence in the back and scratches the shit out of my front bumper. Great! They're giving me a new front bumper and painting it, then installing it. They put me in a rental hybrid RAV4 that someone definitely chain-smoked in and they'll give me an update tomorrow on timeline. I told them I need the truck back Friday since I had planned on a trip this Saturday. I'll provide an update once I get my truck back. I get it, mistakes happen, but god damn am I annoyed LOLIMG_1289.jpg IMG_1290.jpg

Purchased Toyota Certified, with Vijay bumpers, additional lights, and Falken Wildpeaks on Fuel rims. Prev owner apparently painted the grill.
    Ooooof. That sucks man.

Tell them you want the old bumper, that way you have a spare.

Dang! Sounds like a very similar incident that happened to me too. I have a '23 LR OR and they gave me a smoked in rav4 too, go figure haha. I made do, and took the rav on a 2k+ mile road trip while my truck was getting repaired

On an associated note ... this is why I have 3 IKEA waterproof foldable carry-alls in the truck. The Viair 88P, battery-jump, GPS, dashcam, bag of tools, tire deflator (etc) are all in the truck and I may need those "scram bags" anytime.

Turtlewax Hybrid solutions Pro Graphen 23.0 FL OZ Buy one Get One free

I am not sure how good this stuff is (but Amazon has good reviews whatever that may mean these days) (oh and this is a PSA. This isn't an affiliate link AFAIK and definitely not one for me, I have no dog in this fight)

Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Pro Graphene Flex Wax BOGO $25
Turtle Wax has BOGO free on their Hybrid Solutions Pro Graphene Flex Wax. Add one to cart. At checkout, another item and the discount code will be added automatically. Total was $25 for me including free shipping to NY. No sales tax, too for some reason.

Graphene Flex Wax | Detailing Spray Wax | Hybrid Solutions Pro (turtlewax.com)

I'm personally going to give it a shot so we'll see how it goes....

I am sorry you have to deal with this BS. I do all my own maintenance even though it is free through 9/24. I have to now take it for this recall about “weld splatter” and I will examine my truck from bumper to bumper after they fix the recall and before I leave the dealership. I already had a bad experience with them right off that’s why I do all my own oil changes and stuff even while it’s still under warranty. Make them fix the damage RIGHT !!!!

I agree, I only take my vehicles to the dealer for warranty and recalls. When I bought the Tacoma it came with (free) oil changes for the life of the truck. Needless to say, I do my own oil changes

Just use a long piece of rubber hose that fits over the plug snugly, I use a piece of heater hose. It slides right down the hole, and with with little push, over the plug tip and lift it out, same thing for starting the plug threads.. the sides of the hole actually support the hose and keep it straight. Its much easier than a socket

Did a BG44K gas treatment, changed oil and filter. I’m convinced I can’t see the 0-20wt oil on the dipstick after changing.. tried every trick in the book, even as far as the dry towel method… waited until this morning after it removed a little tarnish, and I could see it better.

You're really missing an opportunity here. I'd tell them I'll be having a trusted body shop perform the repair, bring them the quote for repair, and be gone with a check in hand. That hybrid bumper would show up on Toyota's dime.

Got my new RCI engine skid plate and am patiently waiting for my fuel tank skid to show up.

It's replacing an older style engine skid plate that didn't have the diff bump or the extra mounting holes.
The old one I had worked just fine but I had is spaced a 1/2" lower to give the diff plenty of space.
So now I have more ground clearance and I feel better that it uses 6 mounting holes vs the 4 that the old one did.

The red dot I put on there so I know where the jacking point is. On the back side I put a piece of 3/8" HDPE to fill the gap from the skid to the lift point. So that way the skid won't bend if I lift from there.

It works really well, just make sure you prep the paint correctly before using it and don’t use to much. Unless you are using on multiple vehicles I don’t know that you would use 2 bottles before it is past its shelf life but that is a good deal. The hybrid tire dressing and the interior job also work very well and are not overly shinny. The inside job also doesn’t leave the slimy residue that some interior cleaners do.
