60+ year old thread.

It’s a gimmick but they have filters and things in there saying now it never needs an oil change. The newer ones don’t even have drain plugs. So what I do on those is I drain all the gas out of it and use the hill behind my garage and flip the mower upside down and let it run out of the filler spout. Makes a mess sometimes but to never change it is kinda a stretch. 4/5 years maybe but never?
But, to be honest, I don’t change the oil in my old pusher. It’s old enough I need a new one actually so I just check it. If it blows up, don’t care.

Agree with Mike, maybe not change the oil regularly, but not to change it at all also seems like a stretch. !

 

My honey and I took everything off the back screened porch, brushed, vacuumed, dusted, mopped, etc. Now it’s ready for the summer!
Emptied the composter. Mixed it in the cutting garden (which was taken over by garlic!). Planted mixed flower seeds. And finally covered with peat moss. All ready for the rains this weekend.
Granddaughter mowed the formal lawn and discovered the mulch bag has a huge hole in it. It’s a pretty old Huskyvarna ( no clue how to spell that!), so I hope I can find a replacement or figure out how to patch it.
I think with a clean porch and a warm day I’d better test it out by taking a siesta on the couch today.



Going to be another beautiful 77* day with possible showers late! Another great day to be outside soaking up my vitamin D!

If you are doing the work yourself them 50K might be a decent budget. If you are relying on contractors then 85K might be a more realistic cost. This is without seeing your kitchen floorplan. Best of luck. The Kentland's is a nice location to live and still be close to DC.

If you need a critical part for the AC, then a new unit is in your future. Replacing a 20-year-old unit you should see about a $100 a month savings on electricity. We replaced our HVAC unit 12 years ago and I saw a savings on $100 a month on electricity in the summer and $100 a month on natural gas in the winter. I am in Maryland and our climate is different than South Carolina.

As others have said, change the oil. Might be a little messy but easy to do.

Mine has no drain plug, as Mike said, but the maintenance manual documents that to change you need to drain gas and tip it over, which is what I do. I just tip it over into a drain pan in my garage, works fine.

Here's to the cheap MoFo's who can't take the expense of putting in a drain!

 

sixtys/wannabes/birthday boyz n' girlz. No drain plug, WTF! My Ariens ZT has a drain plug in a horrid location so I got an extractor. I wonder if one of those would work on the smaller motors, don't see a reason why not...

...but why should you have to? Just put a dang drain plug in it.

 

Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! I guess it's fixit day. Mower doesn't like to start, both grills down... don't need more than that to fill a day, but I know I forgot something.

If there is an upside to replacing old home air equipment, it's that anything older than 10 years is costing you lots more to operate than even the least efficient new stuff. And you stay warm and cool as needed. I don't love buying the subscription service, but I do love the service I've gotten. We have used virtually every HVAC business and person in town; retire, go commercial, take a counter job for benefits, do great once then never found again, etc. Our first techs from this place were both local kids - but they moved on already.

What type of extractor do you have?
My Scag ZT also has the drain plug in a horrid location, they do make a hose that screws into the drain plug hole to make it much easier to drain the oil, how to get it installed is another thing, I need to do some research, it may be easier than I think, the extractor would be another option.

 

Good afternoon. Had a lot of work done to the Tacoma. Found out that the problem I had with the upper control arm on the 2009 base cab is pretty much a basic problem. The UCA had to be cut out with a saw and new UCA replaced. Tacoma rides better than new now with new shocks and tires all around. I actually found a thread here on TW dealing with the problem with bolts not being able to be removed from the UCA.

 

I got this one. I wanted it to work with larger vehicles not just lawn equipment. I've used it a bunch of times, works well.

I've got a mower I bought in 2006 to use on the ranch cutting heavy stuff that no sane person would cut with a good mower. I've changed the oil three times... the first year, just last year, and somewhere in between. I want a battery powered mower but can't kill the old *it**. Last week I pulled it out from under the dust, checked to see that last years gas was still in it, and pulled the handle once.

There are cars in the world that don't require oil changes, and a Porsche that recommends 30K.

But I'd call the help number in your manual just to verify.

 

I'll get the smaller one.... no need for that big thing. Just need it for the mower. Thanks for the idea.

It's in the manual and on the machine.... I'll get one of those things Dave posted and change the oil anyway.
