I have a 2005 Tacoma 4dr. The other day a big gust of wind slammed my driver door as I was getting out. It sounded bad, but nothing seemed bent. But then I noticed the door would click when I closed it, I also noticed the window won’t go down the whole way.

any ideas what could have gone wrong?

I plan on taking he door panel off this weekend, but was looking to see if this was a common problem.

You broke the door check. The "arm" on the hinge side of the door. And that in turn bent your window track on the hinge side.

Thanks you guys are awesome, the windows blew it open, so it all made sense. It’s the door checker.

I was going to try and fix it myself, how hard is it to do?

It’s tough fir me to get parts, my local dealer always has to special order them. I may be better off getting it done if it’s really involved.

They are easy to replace. Remove door panel, and then remove the two nuts and one bolt. You have to pull it out from inside the door. Also make sure to install it right side up.

Maybe I’ll give it a shot. Now that I I is what it is, I’ll try opening the door and closing the window, if it closes with the door open, it’s just the door checker.

if it doesn’t then I guess the window track can also be screwed up.

It's the window track that is not easy.

I basically have the same exact breakage issue. How (from where) did you shimmy the new plate in?

With door check removed it slips in from outside bolts up to the door check. As you can see theres less thread exposed because of the plate I made
