2024 Tacoma paint

Stopped in Toyota dealer today while me and the wife were out to look at 24 Tacomas as they had 3. Looked at a black TRD Sport that had several options and was $50,000 sticker. The paint on both passenger doors was very cloudy and dry looking compared to all the other body panels. Salesman that was talking to me said he saw it too and that it was the second new Tacoma he had seen like that. He went and got the Manager to show him as we were leaving. I am curious as to how that passes quality control ??

Well, if it was a quality paint job the truck would cost $60K but because of the manufacturer paint defect they lowered the price.

 

When I purchased my black Tacoma in 2021, it was not my first color choice.
I did not see any paint application defects on my example, but my next Tacoma will not be black!
I moved from a light "Sierra beige" color to black when I purchased the Tacoma.
Black pushes me into an OCD spectrum (especially during pollen and sprinkler season).

Black shows every defect, imperfection, and any contaminating "dirt" all too clearly.
If you do want a black vehicle, I would suggest you see it in a shop environment with fluorescent lighting to fully inspect for paint defects.

 

My local dealer has 4 new Tacoma in stock. I noticed that the paint on the sides seemed cloudy, but I'm wondering if it's due to all of the contours in the sheet metal just making it look that way?

 

The one I looked at definitely wasn’t due to the contours. You could see yourself and read your shirt in every body panel very clear except for both passenger doors, you could barely see your shadow. Almost looked like both of those doors were painted flat black.

 

Ah, OK. I saw those Tacomas from inside my truck at a traffic signal. And it was the doors that seemed cloudy.

My wife has a 2020 Corolla HB in Flame Blue with a bunch of funky contours too, and every part shines.

 

I’m suffering from the same OCD problems because I picked my truck based on features and color was a secondary concern. I love the way it looks when it’s clean but man I will definitely never have another black vehicle either.

 

I wonder if they were just hoping someone wouldn’t notice and still buy the truck. That’s unacceptable for any vehicle but especially one that expensive.

 

The problem is, if you buy the truck and drive away with the cloudy paint, Toyota corporate will be absolutely zero help later on.

When it comes to paint defects, you gotta be careful.

 

I just received an extensive survey where toyota headquarters wanted feedback on the product, wanted to know of any issues, things you would improve, concerns, etc....
I didnt mention engine noise as im certain its nothing, mentioned the paint issues ive had, concern about the ags, the sad jbl, I keep hitting the toggle on the wheel switch my boost gauge to engine / trans temp gauge....
I hear a random pop / quick snap rattle from what I think is coming from the rear drivers door area, heard it about 5 times, just a quick snap like some road debris has hit side of truck which isnt the case......
TRD Jon also mentioned rattle in door in one of his videos, tried reaching out to him to see if we have similar noises. He hasnt responded...

thats not totally true, I had flaws in my paint & didnt see them until a month later, they took care of it..
Its obvious theyre most likely very aware of the dull black doors, as at this point we have multiple cases....
new truck, if theyre going to blame you, it would be all the panels.
but I understand what youre trying to say, sooner is better...

 

Some dealers are better than others when it comes to helping customers with warranty issues. Just need to find the right dealer and bring in a couple dozen donuts.
