    2003 Tacoma 4-cly 2.7L Manual
    Hi all,
I have a 2003 Tacoma 4-cyl 2.7L manual, only 65k miles. It's a replacement for my old 2004 Taco 6-cyl automatic which I regretfully let the harsh Maine road salt eat her alive. Otherwise, what a difference a year makes (and manual, and 4-cyl!). It's a great little truck, in pretty good condition, had new frame in 2015, otherwise mostly just surface rust underneath. I have a couple questions if anyone has had these issues.

I've owned Toyotas all my life, so I'm pretty familiar with how they run (except this new-to-me 4-cyl.). In my opinion, the idle seems a bit rough. It idles at about 800RPM when warm. No fault codes. Idles nice at 900RPM. I've taken it to the dealer and an independent and they both report no problems. I'm wondering if there might be anything I can do to make the idle a bit smoother, like a throttle body cleaning or some ignition parts replaced. Any thoughts?

Also, after I bought it I took it to an independent to have all the fluids changed. They replaced the diff/xfer oils all around but I was surprised to see they just used the old (*totally* worn out) crush washers. Is this typical procedure for diff oil replacement? I'm trying to find a trusty mechanic for my new garage princess, but it seems to me this mechanic failed the litmus test. Am I being too picky?

    thanks!
