IMG_8778.jpg We rarely camp in developed campgrounds but dispersed camping is not always an option. We recently ended up camping in a state park and the kids were pretty upset about the amount of trash in our site so they spent a good 30 minutes picking it up while I was setting up camp. If only they were self starters cleaning up their stuff at home too

Oooh I think I know where this is! Quiet little beach area in Norcal ;) Last time I was up there, we were the only ones there when we arrived, but then woke up the next day to 100s of bicyclists rolling through. We somehow managed to plan our trip in the middle of a big bike race lol.

Quite a drive from Death Valley if it's where I think it is!

Also obsessed with the doggie pics

Looking at some of the pictures here I feel like I shouldn’t be so anal about my overall payload. I don’t want to add a truck shell because that will put me just over payload when I hook up to our camper for a trip.

Numerous wildflowers were on display, trying to get their horny selves pollinated before the dry season commences; even the toe-stickers were in on the action (Pediocactus nigrispinus):

Got out for a bit this weekend, not as remote of a campground as I'd like but these ones were pretty good for being actual campgrounds, not too busy either.

Initial plan was to do Stone Creek Campground in Idyllwild (2nd pic), but the lady friend got very carsick on the way out so we stopped at Oak Grove Campground in Warner Springs for the first night (1st pic)

Forest Road Recon, Truck Camping, and a Hoppe’s No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner Incident

northern foothills of the Olympic Mountains
Forest road recon, apparently seldom used and very overgrown, 8 miles in with a lot of elevation gain to a dead end, but no views, this roads a bust; I'll see if these battle scars will buff out:
    j1.jpg

Explored another forest road and found eventually a good site overlooking the Juan De Fuca Strait. As I opened the Leer my olfactories were assailed by an awful stench which I recognized immediately- Hoppe’s No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner. The container housing my gun cleaning kit had become un-bungeed and flopped over. My gun cleaning kit was soaked with Hoppe’s No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner. Upon further inspection, the cap of my Hoppe’s No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner was defective and would not seal. So, I transferred what was left of my Hoppe’s No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner into a pop bottle, cleaned up my kit, and aired out the Leer. As my kit bag was soaked with Hoppe’s No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner and lying
in the intense June sun, I half expected it to erupt into a spontaneous fireball. They claim that the sense of smell is the most evocative, so I expect that now every time I clean a gun, I’ll remember the “Juan De Fuca Incident”. I also learned that I need to better secure my stuff lest I re-funkify my Leer with Hoppe’s No. 9 Gun Bore Cleaner.
