I checked their site. The descriptions for them are the same. The poly is offered in a spray can. The epoxy is brush-on only. POR-15 states that using a brush is a one-time deal. You WILL NOT get it clean. I would guess the same for Steel It.

To answer your question, my gut says epoxy. No particular reason. Just a mans' intuition.

 

I’ve used a ton of epoxy on iceboats and sailboats over the years so that’s where my instincts direct me as well, but damn, costly!

 

When I bought my rear bumper in the raw, the place in Oregon wanted $600 to powder coat it. Buy once, cry once.

 

I powder coated mine... they are bare and rusty where the tires have blasted it all off (well, and to be fair... rocks too)

 

Mine have some pretty good scratches in them. Not sure how I got um. My best guess would be shopping carts at the grocery store in Moab.

Joking aside,
I looked at sliders as insurance.
The damage caused by not having them would probably cost more than the sliders themselves.

 

That's exactly why I'm getting them. I've been following Pat a few times on trails that would have been costly if I had not taken the right line.

That's pretty much the same reason I used on my wife when I got mine.
Not that I plan on bouncing off rocks, but just in case.

 

I'm going to pull the trigger soon on some 4X sliders. Not a fan of their tread plate so I'm going to have my cousin fab/cut somethin better out.

The just in-case factor is why I'm getting them. I'll tell my wife I bought steps to help her get up into the 4Runner which was one of her complaints

 

The top plates collect too much road slop in the winter and is a royal pain-in-the-ass to clean when it's cold. If I did it again, I'd skip the top plate. Only reason I have them is the wife was concerned about the grandkids slipping through the openings. I made her pay the extra money for the plates. I didn't want them.

 

That's what I gathered from all the discussion here, mine are plateless and shall remain so. Nothing but glorious (soon to be) matte black round tubes!

 

I went without tread plates. Just somewhere for mud (or ice/slush in the winter) to collect and start rusting.

edit: I put some traction tape on the top of the tubes, haven't slipped yet.

That thought has crossed my mind...at least for by the front doors.

I know that rubberized spray doesn't always hold real well but I was wondering if it would help with the front and front underside, where rocks kick up?
A little something extra for rocks to bounce off of.

 

So I have the last week of may off, and the OOAT is looking pretty tempting, but the sand dunes in Michigan are calling my name also. Torn on what direction to head.
