What takeoffs will fit?

Probably asked before but I just picked up a 2009 Tacoma with 42,000 miles. Truck is mint but the rims are kind of boring. Would like to upgrade the rims and tires with a set of "takeoffs". What years would fit on my truck? Thanks!

 

Pretty much most Toyota 6-lug wheels. That includes other models like the Sequioa, Tundra, 4Runner and Land Cruisers. Even Lexus GX series and others.

I put Bronco takeoffs on mine. I machined out a 1.5" spacer because the hub-centric diameter on the Bronco rims is smaller, but you could probably just use a bolt-centric spacer without the lip. The Bronco rims are +63 offset so you need the spacer anyway

 

I put 4th gen take offs on my 2008 truck that had the same steel wheels as yours. Realize you will need new shouldered lug nuts for the mag wheels because the steel wheels have the acorn style nuts. I found the lug nuts on Amazon for about 20 something dollars and just for reference a brand new never driven on set of takeoffs cost me $850 (new tires were going to be $650 anyway).

 

Love the 2020+ sport wheels - I have them on mine too. The best thing about them is the holes between the spokes are big enough to put your foot in when working on the engine or cleaning the windshield or roof.

Just a heads up they’re from 3rd Gen 2020+ not 4th Gen - 4th Gen aren’t a direct replacement for pre 24 trucks.

 

Aside from needing new lug nuts, you will also need new sensors. The steel wheel pictured in the first post use 40 degree stem TPMS sensors and is the ONLY OEM Tacoma wheel to use the 40 degree type.

All others use 20 degree stem TPMS sensors, (including the black OEM steel wheel used for a spare for those that like to run four of those on the ground)

Yes, I know the spare comes originally with a rubber snap-in valve (non-TPMS).

 

I ran valve stems from steel wheels in aftermarket alloys and have read about them being flipped and working on oem alloys. That said this is about as long as old original sensors in early (pre '12) 2nd gen start failing. Replacing them with new ones and getting them synched with your TPMS is a good idea if you'd like to keep the functionality of the system. Unless keeping the truck forever I wouldn't get OEM TPMS sensors.

 

If you run the original 40 degree sensors flipped over in (oem or aftermarket) alloys designed for 20 degree sensors, then you will run the risk of 1) the stem not seating properly against the stem hole of the wheel and 2) broken sensors when the tires are removed again down the road.

 

Yeah I remember reading that and never had any issues using mine in the alloy wheels. TPMS valve stem batteries died on my 08 several years ago - I wouldn't keep running the og stems on OP's or any pre-12.
