Yes we started last year netting. It was crazy the first year, birds go almost all of them.

About a month. But it has been hot and rained a lot, for GA, so it may have sped up the ripening.
On average, we are about 10 degrees warmer than SE KY (have family there), to give an idea.

Yep, lots of rain makes them big and plump. Sometimes not as sweet. My bushes are loaded but still a ways from ripe.

Ran the tiller shallow through everything now that it’s finally dried out some. Gonna run hiller bedder through corn and beans tomorrow eve with tractor to build furrows back up. Then preen on everything to knock out any weeds germinating. Saves a hoe. That and 5 acres grass cut since yesterday eve. Whooped.

I don't know if this is the right thread to be asking these, but I have two questions.

First, at the end of 2022 I hard pruned the snot out of an old rhododendron. Now...I am unsure if this thing will recover.

    upload_2024-5-22_15-6-53.jpg

    upload_2024-5-22_15-7-7.jpg

One branch with a fresh cut, in case that matters:
    upload_2024-5-22_15-9-26.jpg

Any thoughts? I am leaning toward "I killed it", which is fine if that's the case, I'm happy to get another plant in there instead of doing CPR on a headless corpse sort of thing.

Secondly, WTF are these weeds, why do they suck, and is there any trick other than suffer through and get thicker gloves? The gloves I was using yesterday seemed to do a solid 98% of the task, but still got a few nabs through the gloves while pulling them.

    I'd say.

In my hobbyist opinion it looks like you finished it off. I very much doubt any new growth will come from that.
With any luck some new ones are sprouting in between the stumps.

Yep, she is done, Jim, stick a fork into it.
If you trim below buds, there is nothing for the new growth to come from, except for roots. And not all plants come from the roots. If you want to, give it 2 gal (1 capful) of Quickstart and see if anything comes from the roots, if not, it is dead.

These work great for wild blackberries, I am sure they will work for those weeds.

I'm a fan of Shrubs and Hosta fillers.
2nd from bottom is a dappled willow shrub I planted 3 yrs ago.
Letting it run wild yet. They can get up to 12', I believe.

Edit: I shouldn't say, "wild". I have a couple branches tied and staked to train.
