This is my view from my driveway ... 1/2 mile walk and I am inside the park. Tallest peak in South Mountain Park may only be 1000 ft, but there are just SOOOOOO MANY to choose from in the 15 mile by 6 mile.

 

Attempted Cacade Pass but turned back due to active slides in the basin. Basically hiked for 4 hours with skis in our backs so we could ride for 15 minutes

 

Worth the hike for those sights!

 

Headed into those hills for an 8.3 mile 1200 ft vertical climb hike. Pre-cambrian rock, but no rattlesnakes this time.

 

Hiked up to Edelweiss Bowl yesterday evening and caught golden-hour at dusk when the clouds broke up a bit. Always nice being in the mountains at sunset. It's 2,000 ft to the top of the ski area. Up and down in less than 2 hours

Spent all day hiking at the ski hill today. 4 laps top to bottom, almost 8,000 ft climbing in 6 hours



Nothing too crazy, just up and down groomers. Nice soft snow and sunshine

 

Put in another day at the ski hill yesterday, this time with 10-12" of fresh snow. Made the ridge and got first tracks into the backside by 9 am.



2,000 ft of pow all to myself. Takes about 2 minutes to get down and 60 minutes to hike back up

 

Snow was so good I came back today and toured off the back of Skyline Ridge across the highway from the resort. The north facing bowls were as good as it gets

Another 6 hours at the ski hill. It keeps snowing, so I keep hiking. Didn't see anybody else, just my lonely ski track. 4 laps on the frontside, 2 laps on the backside.
