RGS waterless wax and wash, anyone used it?

For the past week or two at the Raceway in town there have been some guys walking around the pumps trying to sell this stuff to people. Finally today, one of them cornered me and starting talking me into this stuff. Normally I'm the guy that just says "no thanks" before they can even get more than a few words in, but I was really needing to wash my truck today. I already dreaded it because it's such a time consuming process to get it even half decent. Well this guy starts talking his junk: "nice truck," "what brand or soap and wax do you use," etc, etc. Well he asks if he can try this waterless wash and wax stuff on a spot on the truck. I had a pretty nice yellowish film on my truck as it was and I was sitting there waiting on my truck to fill up as it was, so I let him. He proceeds to clean several different things on the truck. The fender, bugs off the bumper, some wax I had gotten on the headlight but could never get off, scuffs in the plastic, wheels, and even the windows. I kept asking to see it on these different spots on the truck to see when it was going to fail, but it didn't. It cleaned every one of those and left a really nice shine to it because it washes and waxes; all of the grime comes off onto the towel. The windows didn't streak, the bugs came right off, my headlight looked brand new, and the scuffs I thought were in for good were gone. All that was used was a terry cloth, a microfiber cloth, and the spray RGS FW1 spray. I was thinking it would just smudge the grime on the truck around with the towel, but it really worked and looked better than any other time I've spent hours washing and waxing. I'm not working for this company or trying to convince anyone to buy this, but it is a nice product. He said that they use it at car shows a lot to touch it up right before the show when an actual wash is out of the question. But you guys should check it out. I bought a value pack that he says Raceway has a deal on going for about $70. He said it was half price and I didn't believe him, but sure enough on the site it's $130. I ended up detailing my truck for the first time with these products and I'm impressed. It looks brand new again to me. For the price, convenience/time, and how well it did, it holds its own.

What I worry about products like that is getting swirl marks quicker. Cleaning the whole truck with that, for me it would have to be done with several microfiber towels, otherwise you are just swirling around a dirty towel around the truck. Not like a traditional wash where you clean the sponge (specially when washing it using the two bucket method). For me there is no substitute for wash+clay+polish+wax & sealant, to get the truck's paint protected and for a longer period.

yeah, i know what you're saying. but you do use the terry cloth to actually clean and the microfiber towel to buff it. so the microfiber towel isn't really getting very dirty. but no, i didn't keep using the same dirty terry towel for the whole truck. i know this doesn't replace the traditional method, but i don't have a ton of spare time, much less about a whole day to do all of that right. with this, i got it done pretty quick and it looks good. there weren't any swirl marks and it pretty much looks like i just got it back from being detailed. yeah, it's a quick fix, but it works for me; it did what i needed it to.

the point i'm trying to make about it is that for the price, time it takes, and how good it does, it's pretty nice.

 

IMO swirl marks will occur over time, I think the product is okay as you said, when time is limited or just want to quickly wash the truck. Just in case I don't clay, wax and polish every time I wash the truck, I do it every 6 months, maybe a little more. Wax + Sealant can last up to 6 months depending on conditions and number of washes. There is another product in the detailing thread, that you just fill two buckets one with the soap and another with just water (to clean the sponge), you clean the truck as you would usually do, but without the need of hosing the truck, just wash and dry. The soap is very concentrated so you don't use much therefore it last a long time.

It might do it, but I didn't notice any swirls today. The website said to use this at the most every three months. So I guess it's not a really serious wax. I've tried wax a couple of times. Besides using the wax just to fix imperfections, I always manage to screw it up. I'm not big into detailing or even washing, the truck usually goes a few months at a time between washes because it is so inconvenient with my schedule. That's one big reason this stuff appealed to me, convenience. That two bucket thing sounds pretty convenient too. I'll look into it.

I don't trust products like that. As others have said, if there's any dirt on the truck you run the risk of just rubbing it into the paint job and leaving small scratches behind. I run the truck through the touchless washes in a jamb but prefer the hand wash and wax only when I know the truck is nice and clean.

 

alright, i know what you guys are saying. all i am saying is that for the price, convenience of time, and how good it works, it's pretty nice. i have NO swirl marks. trust me, i am going to check something out after i paid $70 for it. so yes, i looked the truck over up and down very good and didn't see any problems other than some scratches and chips i have gotten. yes, it may over time and with lots of use, but for now it has no negative side effects. my truck looks cleaner than i've ever seen it and actually doesn't have bugs sprayed all over the front. as promised, pictures:

i'd rather just wash it the traditional way. wouldnt want to take the risk of anything waterless and rubbing off the dirt, just a big nada for me

 

Many years ago a guy approached me with probably the same product. I used it but i ran out and just didn't get it anymore. It does work and it did not hurt my finish. It was amazing stuff but it's been so long now that I don't remember the brand name. I tried to get my dad to try it but he was too scared.

 

I use it on my frame rails works great.

 

They were selling the same stuff at the Ultramar gas station near me the other weekend. The idea of using it regularly on paintwork put me off BUT it did two things incredibly well

1 - the guy cleaned the driver side glass - OMG - since then its been like it was rainx'd - got the glass spotless and like he promised it resists finger prints, etc

2 - he cleaned my old steel rims - it took off some light rust staining in no time


Not sure I'd stop clay and wax for painted metal but for those two applications it was amazing!

 

Yeah, I was at my local RaceTrack when I was approached. And he sold me on it with the things it actually cleaned that I could never get with a traditional wash. He got my hazy headlights looking great, got bugs that had pretty much bonded with my bumper off, got old wax off, etc. I don't worry about it messing up my paint because I've used it on my entire truck twice now and cannot find a negative side effect yet. If you notice I only said twice, and my original post is from April. That's because you're only supposed to use it every few months. I definitely wouldn't be using this every week or two; that would be asking to mess up the paint. But it's all good, my truck only gets a bath every few months anyways.

 

they was at a raceway in my town too! haha. but my girlfriends mom bought some. Its pretty cool, but nothing beats a good ol soap and bucket. haha.

 

Anyone tried this stuff on a black truck or a dark colored truck? That would be a true test of this stuff. Hell, I take my time and am very careful (throw away microfiber towel if it falls on the ground, etc.) and I still have a shit load of swirls that can be seen in the right light

 

I use a similar product from Prolong. It does a nice job on my Barcelona Red Tacoma...tried it on my daughter's black Honda Element...looked like crap, lots of swirl marks, depending on the angle you looked at it.

Prolong rep said I used too much, & should spray product onto a microfiber towel, not directly on the paint. What a big help after using it on entire square box!

Anyway, I dig it for my red truck!

 

I also use a California duster over the entire body BEFORE using the waterless spray.no sense in rubbing the dirt into the paint.
