    Hi guys,

It's been hot and sticky here in NH and my A/C compressor seized the other day. Im at 42K miles and have never seen a compressor die so soon (I've owned plenty of American POS vehicles and a 2nd gen Taco). I'm guessing it didn't have enough oil from factory or I just got some shit luck. Anyway, I have a new one on order, along with a new condenser (apparently they should be replaced together) and the stupid R1234YFABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP refrigerant. I already have a gauge set and vacuum pump.

I'm having a hard time finding info about the A/C system and it looks like Toyota changed some things for the 2022 model year. Specifically I can't find a model-specific o-ring set or how much oil to put in the system after giving her the sucky sucky. Has anyone had this issue or had to work on a '22-'23 A/C system?

AC is a weak spot on these trucks....you would think that Toyota would use a Denso compressor but they do not.

actually rare that your ac pump itself has failed. almost exclusively just the pulley clutch. which if it failed and was permanently engaged could have contributed to the compressor failing

Toyota wants you to drain the old compressor and weigh it and drain the difference.
If your new compressor is empty it looks like 5.1 oz for the compressor and .51 oz for the clutch.

Dumb question: where does one put the compressor oil if they just replace a condenser, or do they need to add any more?

Also- why do you need to also replace the condenser if you just needed to replace the compressor?

Damn it, now something else I need to worry about. 2022 .. so far my a/c is almost as cold as the old r22 systems (if I remember the name correctly). I've got a vac pump and manifold Guage set. Hopefully I won't need them. Had to do the little lady's car and 2 other family members cars last year.

The modern condensers contain the receiver/dryer… which you used to replace independently. Now, all that nasty bits is trapped in the condenser… YAY! Hey, at least they didn’t stuff it in the evap . Consider replacing your expansion valve as well… especially if it looks like pump grenaded with shrapnel.

ive seen some systems have a catch screen inside the line after the compressor. no idea if these have one tho

Oh nice, a dumb answer for a dumb question!

Thanks but I meant where are you supposed to pour it into the system?

Good point about the condenser also, thanks.

wtf? the oil is in a can like the freon "pressurized" and put in with the a/c hoses, just like "FREON"
and the dryer has to be replaced (not condenser)
system is power flushed cause inside the compressor has plastic inside and gets in the system when it pops

Kind of off the subject but not really in a way. I had a Mercedes Benz and although the A/C never stopped working, it was leaking oil from the A/C compressor. I ended up having to take it back to the dealership two times because after the first time it was leaking worse than when I brought it in. They replaced the compressor and it never leaked again. I've no idea how much oil is in the compressor but since the serpentine belt ran around the compressor, if it had locked up it would have caused all kinds of issues.

My daughter has an 18 Toyota and the A/C went out last year. We live in Colorado Springs so it's not really a big deal in the summertime (today's high was 57). But, in the wintertime, the A/C controls the defrost so I had to get it fixed. Turned out it was the evaporator core behind the dash that "somehow" started leaking. No idea how that happened since it is hidden behind the dash where nothing can get to it. They had to remove the entire dash and $3500 later it was fixed. Here's to hoping it doesn't happen again.

Ok, I understand now- that was kinda funny- you were talking about the metal pressurized cans of refrigerant and oil combined, and I was asking about where the correct place was to pour PAG oil from a unpressurized standard plastic bottle. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

So before I attach the lines to my new condenser and tighten them all down, where do I add the PAG oil from the plastic bottle? Do I put it in the line leading directly to the compressor intake (I suspect not this), or upstream of the condenser, or does it matter?

Edit: OK, figured it out. If using just liquid PAG oil from a non-pressurized bottle, just pour the recommended amount of oil directly into the condenser and it will mix with the refrigerant as it flows throughout the system.

You’re preaching to the choir. Here in Arkansas it’s so humid you can see the @#$&$#@#$ air. This is what Cambodia or Laos must feel like.
