I have a 2009 access cab with relatively new tires (less than 6k). I'm getting a road noise that I'm not sure what it is and figured I would ask here to see what people think. The noise seems like its coming from the left front side, it speeds up and and slows down relative to how fast I'm going, it's unchanged when I slip it into neutral (I have a manual trans). The noise almost goes away when I make a right turn but doesn't change at all when I make a left turn. Inspection of the tire I dont notice anything obvious like uneven wear or anything stuck in the tread or side wall of the tire. The front disc brake pads, rotars and dics were changed by my local Toyota dealer several months ago.

Any thoughts on what this might be?

How many miles on the truck itself?

If you have a reason to suspect tires its easy enough to do a temporary rotation.

That said a very common sign of a bad front bearing on these trucks is noise while corning one way and not the other. They very rarely fail the 'push-pull' test from what I read

Sounds like a bad front right wheel bearing to me.

It is likely your left front bearing. One way to determine what side bearing it is while driving down the road is to turn slightly to the right or sway to the right. If the noise lessens or goes away it’s your left bearing. If you sway or turn to the left and the noise diminishes it’s your right bearing.
Expected life of front bearings is 100000 miles. May last longer or may wear out before 100000 miles.

thanks, any merit in replacing both left and right or not really necessary until the right actaully goes bad? Also, should I buy the bearing and hub assembly or is it easy enough to just replace the bearing?

I’d do them both. They typically fail with 15k miles of each other in my experience.
Look for bearings with SKF or NSK bearing. Don’t buy them from eBay or Amazon.
Too many fake bearings out there.

You could buy them from Amazon, but make sure it comes from a reputable seller.

Dealer will charge you an arm and a leg for 1 this member will send you both for a good price. You can install or have a trusted mechanic do it for you.
This is what I will do when I need a new one and I will get both done at the same time. Just because as the saying goes if 1 light goes the other one is not far behind. That's my opinion. The question no one has asked have you put a lift in recently?

I agree with TnShooter, replace both. One failed a little early, it’s likely the other wont last a whole lot longer.
