I'm looking forward to an update on both of these bumpers. The Apogee looks sweet but it's spendy and I'm not a huge fan of the way the BSM sensors mount up.

Yeah, if it had been higher clearance with a built in hitch receiver it would check all the boxes for me. But if BSM actually works, this is probably what I'll go with.

Any updates on this thread? I bought a 2020 Tacoma with an aftermarket bumper with no sensor cutouts or BSM cutouts. The sensors I think will be easy, but the BSM sensors not so much. If there was a plastic boot of some kind and could cut out for them, I would be ecstatic. I have a line on a used stock bumper, but like th look of the steel one.

Apogee off road, Buckstop, and 4WP are all currently manufacturing BSM bumpers, albeit with lead times

I got hit in the corner of my left bumper. The bumper cap plus the bracket that holds the BSM was cracked. Luckily the BSM was not damaged. Decided to go with a steel bumper because the Tacoma bumper is just three pieces of plastic garbage. I bought the Westin Pro Series rear bumper. At first, Westin said the bumper was BSM compatible, and then said it was not. I wasn’t sure if that was for liability or functionality reasons, but It was a nice looking bumper anyway so I pulled the plug. It was a pain in the neck pulling the OEM bumper off. I broke one of the hole parking sensors. I replaced in with a RAV4 one on Amazon, which was identical, for 10 bucks. Toyota wanted 150. I bought the Westin bumper for under a grand shipped. I read on this forum that the metal mesh in the corners of the Westin bumper will interfere with the BSM radar so I cut out the mesh. After I installed the bumper, I did not know that the BSM’s must be oriented at a 50 degree angle plus or minus 3 degrees or you will get a fault after driving. I got the BSM Unavailable message. I thought that I could clear it with the OBD. The only way to clear the fault is by using Toyota’s proprietary software Techstream. I called 3 different dealers and got 3 different prices to recalibrate them. Needless to say, it was not cheap. I’m happy to say my BSM’s work with a steel bumper. I bought a sheet of Kyvex plastic and double sided tape and covered the hole. Here is the result.

Anyone know of a brand that functions with BSM and offers a spare tire mount location? I see 4wp will be offering one soon but doesn't have spare tire as an option yet.

Apogee Offroad is coming out with one if they haven't already. Check their website.

Bumping this. Anyone try this rear bumper? Curious if there are any experiences with the BSM? The company claims that BSM works with this bumper. And its like $1000 cheaper than Apogee

I’m no expert but was looking for a BSM bumper for two years before I finally picked one. In that time I took every opportunity possible to make comments boldly stating “there are only 4 bumpers that maintain BSM” here whenever it came up. The list grew and shrank in that time, but no one ever mentioned C4 as an option.
Apogee offroad, buckstop industries, chassis unlimited and fishbone offroad are the only 4 that have been confirmed by this rigorous scientific study

Reading these last posts again, I replied to the wrong comment. Glad the guy I replied to found my comment helpful though.
Having said that; I wound up with the fishbone offroad bumper because it was $600 on sale.
I don’t know how other bumpers are mounted, but I don’t have a lot of confidence in this bumper as a recovery point despite its two large shackle mounts.
Based on how adjustments are made during installation and the fact that there’s too little space to get a long wrench on the bolts that attach it to the frame and really torque them down, I would still use my hitch for a rear kinetic recovery.
Sensors all still work, but BSM seems a tad more sensitive so the angles may be slightly off.
I’d call the Fishbone Offroad bumper a cosmetic upgrade. Functional in that it has slightly higher clearance
