My speedometer and tech are both intermittently sticking. Anyone know why or how to fix it? I know I posted about this before but it's happening again and is not under warranty any longer. First time dealer said there was nothing wrong.

Your picture shows nothing wrong… oh

I know with older vehicles, a solution was to drip oil on the cable that runs to the speedometer. Our old Toyota’s speedometer used to shake like crazy, especially in the cold.

Have you tried Toyota corporate? You are just barely out of warranty, so they might be willing to provide a goodwill fix given the dealers inaction.

And to confirm, the digital reading is correct?

it sounds like OP has taken it in for this before, so there should be some documentation to push for a fix if needed. I would go this route.

My plastic cover broke, the dealer reluctantly swapped it (initially tried to say I did it). But they showed me the old one and it just clipped on. I would remove your instrument panel and try blow out the gauges with some compressed air. Maybe add a little sewing machine oil. I would not be surprised if this is still your original cluster as failing twice in the same way seems kinda odd.

Exactly what I meant. Toyota doesn’t want bad press for their dealer refusing to act. At just over the bumper to bumper warranty, there’s a decent chance they make OP right. Assuming he calls the right people.

Is that an OEM instrument cluster? I don't think mine has that texture with the signals and lights indented. Mine is much smoother. At the top of the left turn signal, it looks like there's a film over it as well? Right turn signal has it too it seems, like a bubble under it. Could it be some sort of aftermarket cluster or finish that is jamming things up?

Here's another thread for the instrument cluster I am more familiar with.

    GREAT CATCH!!
Mine does not look like that as well. I highly doubt those bubbles are from a factory finish. Mine is a 2019, maybe the later years were different thought?
I wonder if someone covered this to change it's appearance and whatever the covering is, doesn't leave enough clearance in between the face of the cluster and the back of the needles.
OP, did you do something or buy this truck used?

Mine looks like these, there are no indentations around the various features
stolen from the net, mine has the upgraded screen in the center, but you get the ideaupload_2023-11-18_18-32-20.png

I mean I'm on my second cluster with this issue of it being rough/choppy/twitchy. My first cluster would just randomly drop all readings and die.. like an old ford with a wildly fluctuating speedo except every gauge. My cluster was replaced under warranty and i know by the fact of my kms were about 10'000kms less because I drove that much between them ordering the cluster and mileage being programmed to the date of install.

I was thinking to open mine up and use a drop of oil but I keep forgetting about it because I mostly drive highway at a steady speed and don't frequently watch my tachometer

I'm late to the party with a reply to this rather old thread but my 2023 Tacoma (8,000 miles) developed similar symptoms. Dealership looked, asked no questions, pulled the instrument cluster, sent it to Toyota to reprogram the new instrument cluster, and have just installed that. This sounds like a known issue.

I'm glad that my trouble appeared before the warranty period expired.
