Rear Seat Delete Decks

That under seat storage is a decent size, that seat delete looks great too.

 

Working on getting my platform and rear wall I built along with its subframe put into Fusion... then I will be able to do some edits to the floor and have better dimensions for everything.

 

Bet you could find something similar on Amazon...pretty cheap also.

I had to look it up. It's a bed liner so you're going to need to let off gas while it cures, so make sure it's dry and not giving off a string chemical smell before you install it. You'll probably want a rough surface roller to get a good textured finish without getting pointy tips on the finish. I only saw gallons, so you'll have some left over.

 

Thanks for the response. I picked up a quart of the textured black & stippled roller. 80 (they say use 60) grit the exterior, wiped, and the durabak applied well-- so long as the surface is sanded. I would say the quart is not quite enough, you will want several layers. A gallon would be advisable. OR, more economically. Paint black a few layers first before durabak textured finish. I ended up spray painting black after the durabak for additional layers. It did take several days to fully cure and not smell. Overall turned out great, its done. I'll have pictures after I get everything else buttoned up.

 

I think I just went the spray on bed liner route as it was a quick build for a cross country trip. I'm going to rebuild it as soon as I get a few other wood working projects done and thought about using a roll on liner. But I'm starting to think more about some kind of carpet. O bought a gallon of Monsta-Liner for the bumper and had some left over. I can see the logic in buying the gallon, but then what do you do with the left over?

 

I’ve been messing around with my access cab rear area recently and came up with this setup that works pretty well for my purposes. This is inspired by the gen-2 design, which does bolt into the gen-3, but doesn’t really work very well. I have no intention of ever carrying human passengers back there, but I wanted to retain the option for emergencies. I also wanted to retain all of the existing mounts and to make no permanent changes to the vehicle. The only thing I had to do was cut holes in the carpet to gain access to the existing seat mounts.

The grab bar across the top is mounted using a set of stock headrest brackets with the hinges drilled out, and greatly facilitates access. I cut up a spare set and kept my stock set. The seat cushions are covered with the fabric from a spare set of stock seats.

The jack box is from a 2007 and drops right in.

The Shotlock box is a nice fit and covers holes in the carpet that are visible when the console is removed.

The only real issue is I haven’t decided what to do with the extra spaces in the seat frames. I could probably build some small storage boxes or something.

 

I’ve read the OP’s post a few times but never noticed this until today. You gotta respect a man that owns a solid anvil.

 

Real talk, that's kind of ingenious that there's padding when the floor-fillers are retracted, and then carpet when they're deployed.

 

Alright, well, after seeing new posts here, I got off my ass today and threw this together with 1/2" plywood, a chunk of 2x4 and simpson strong ties.



I bolted it in place with the seat belt bolts.



I added the 2x4 as a cross brace, only because I didn't use 3/4" plywood and only had 1/2" laying around. I just didn't want the middle to bow.




And then I added the simpson corner braces just because I had previously split the laminate in a couple spots on the vertical plywood.



Everything has a place and everything is in its place.


And I stuck the mechanic's rug back over the top of it for the pooch's comfort.

Not bad for a free scrap plywood piece and $13 in hardware.

 

Really didn’t want to remove the seats but needed a place to temporarily mount a 15L fridge. This is what I came up with…


Just a 1/2 inch piece of plywood and a large pool noodle.


Still have access to under seat storage.


Just big enough to hold a small fridge.


Even has room to store the seat.

 

Nice, simple solution! I've been scrubbing this thread myself as I plan on doing a DIY 60% seat delete soon for my fridge/battery box.

 

Did the rear seat delete today. I wanted something minimal that still allowed me to use the storage underneath if needed. I still need to paint the panels, add tie downs for the battery box, and buy a slider for my fridge. It'll work for this weekend's trip for now though.

I used 3/4" PVC. If anyone is curious on the measurements, the driver's side panel is 24"x20" and the passenger's side panel is 24"x32". There's about a 1/8" gap between them.

Figured I would share, with my rear seat delete and monstaliner, even with my bungee net, things were sliding around (grocery bags mainly).

I saw this at Costco and decided to give it a shot—damn near-perfect fit, rubber-backed, and a cheap solution at $12. Most importantly no rubber smell like most cheap mats.

Great video and review! Curious if you’ve heard of anyone installing these in a second gen. So bummed that these are 3rd gen only.
