Tacoma Brakes - Swaps and Tech

The only caliper in that post is for stoptech to a broken link, I already looked into rotors and pads but specifically looking at calipers.

 

What do you mean by 16" rotors? You mean wheels right? Yeah pretty much all upgrades that really increase performance are going to require 17" wheels so you might want to begin to look for 17's

 

Looks like they changed the link to select the rotor size in a drop down instead of a dedicated page. To fit 16" wheels you need 323mm rotors, currently out of stock:

EDIT: Definitely select Sport pads, street ones are literally trash. As in I threw my new pads away after a couple hundred miles.

 

Newb: rim size excluded, could one put 13WH on a first gen Tacoma w/o machining the caliper ears?

 

Not sure. I would go with the 13WA if your going to go for That size rotor it’s A newer version. But not sure where the rotor will line up. Since you can run an older tundra setup I would assume it would work. But def will need 17” rim to make either fit.

 

Running with 16” setup during the winter, so no front upgrades for me….

Anybody know makes the TRD pads for 2nd gens? Have heard might be Stoptech?? Akebono/Advics??

When I pulled them off my 2015 they were stamped with Advics.

Im Karl , a new member, 05 X-runner and I’m in love with that thing!
I’ve already started a whole project: Bags, disc conversion, big brake kit, and other engine mods and upgrade/refresh the supercharger. Truck is now at 6” clearance with c notch and everything.

-ordered the kit from SOS for conversion just waiting for it.
- now I’m trying to find a setup for the front!

 

Drubbed can’t use the 4x4 brakes as far as I know. But something like the TRD BBK off a scion TC MIGHT fit

 

Thinking about this upgrade while doing some other front end work. I've got 17" steelies on standby which make it more tempting. I want to keep it new OEM; hoping for a sanity check before the credit card comes out!

Here are the conclusions I have drawn from a few threads on a few sites:

• I have the OR with the hydraulic brake booster - this should be fine with the upgraded calipers (and...it's the same MC used on 4runner anyway?)
• The thicker GX460/5th gen 4runner rotors will work with either WA/WB calipers
• Stock brake lines for my 2G will work fine - or I am also considering the Wheeler's stainless DOT lines (and with the current sale, slightly less expensive than OEM)
  
• May need to sleeve caliper mounting bolts as what shows up could have bores for 12mm or 14mm fasteners

I don't remember too much from my swap, except that I was able to figure out a way to ensure I got the 12mm calipers.

I’m pretty sure it was 4Runner brake calipers if I remember right from my swap.

edit: Found order email from way back when.

 

They actually made an entire movie about their brake parts..
