I found some seasonal use roads and state forest roads today! Mostly between Ithaca and Richford/Berkshire. I didn't dare go too crazy on them as my buddy and I were alone, and had already gotten stuck going up a hill elsewhere. So I didn't really push it too much. The ice and snow made reasonably well maintained roads fun and challenging. Hell, I even used 4LO and the locker to back down a ditch I'd slid into and managed to get back on the trail. THAT feat impressed my buddy a bit. :D

Orange County NY here, the only local places to ride recently got fenced off due to liabilities. I am going to do some research around though to find any private land to maybe do some off roading.

Grew up in Canajoharie. (Home of Beech Nut baby foods, Bubble Yum, etc) Used to fish in the Mohawk river as a kid and played little league All Stars games in Ilion, New York.

Do you know that Beech Nut is leaving Canajoharie for a new plant in the Town of Florida, next to the Target warehouse on NY-5S.

I read that a little while ago. I thought the article i read suggested flooding was partly to blame, which didn't make sense to me. Never really remembered that being a problem there, at least to where the plant was affected. (Bad memory?)

That Beech Nut plant was loosing significance for years, unfortunately for my home town. Not too many ways to make a living there anymore. A nice place to grow up as a kid (nice gorge, (Wintergreen Park) fishing in the river, sledding down the hills (river vally) etc.) but not so much when it is time to enter the work force.

i'm in Dutchess County, but have driven the Catskills quite a bit in my Jeeps.

Not many 'trails', but there are some state land 'access' roads that can be fun with the sping/wet weather with lots of ruts, mudd, rocks, etc.

One 'fun' road is called Trails End Road.

This road is off of 'Sundown Road' near the town of Palentown (mapquest it).

Trails end starts as access to camping locations, but the road get's washed out, so depending on the season, can be fun....shale rocks, ruts, mudd, and lots of shade and trees, make for a nice place to get off the beaten path, take a lunch break, and move on....the road is called 'Trails End' on the east side, and goes thru the state forest to end on Spencer road near the town of Greenville. Mapquest does not show it as a THROUGH road, but indeed it does go all the way to Spencer Road.

I would not make a special trip driving hours to get there, but more like if you are in the area for other trails you can check it out.....it's only a couple miles long, but i've been up there several times in my jeeps and enduro motorcycles, and never had any probs with rangers saying 'no motor vehicles'.

There are some campsites, and i have seen everything from Jeeps to Subaru's up there....the subaru's usually take the first couple sites, and the jeeps get further up the trail before they camp.

I've always wanted to go to New York. Being a Firefighter from Nevada, after 9/11, I just always wanted to check it out. See, I've heard so many mixed reviews on people that have been to New York. Mostly bad stuff, no offense, but that's just what I've been told by numerous people. Most people said it's not a bad place to visit, but that's it, just visit, never wanted to live in New York. I guess they kind of mean it like Las Vegas. Good to visit but that's it!

I don't particularly like the city, but outside the city can be mostly country side with farms, etc and smaller cities scattered here and there. Just like Nevada isn't like Vegas throughout the state. Although there are a lot of stupid laws that apply statewide. And then there's separate laws for NYC. Like I could get a pistol permit in NY in my county, but it's not valid in NYC even though it's the same damn state. Our taxes are probably higher due to the City too. Personally, I think it should be it's own separate state just so we don't have to deal with that crap.

Believe it or not, the majority of the people in the state don't talk like they do near New Yawk City and as is depicted in TV and the movies.

I was born in Amsterdam and have lived in New York State my whole life, and listening to that NYC accent makes it hard even for me to believe we are in the same state.
