When faced with having to power a CHMSL ( third brake light) on a topper on a fourth gen Tacoma it’s a little more complex than on previous gens. As the new ones are all L.E.D. the stop and turn are the same wire . I found myself in a position of having to crimp-splice or cut and solder to gain access to the stoplight circuit at the tailights. Niether of these were acceptable to me as I didn’t want to butcher my new truck. Fortunately FBC harness solutions came through with a “ T” harness for the 4th gen Tacoma! When installed between the trucks wiring harness and the tailight it gives you pigtails to attach the stoplight and ground wires to the logic box , the logic box takes the stoplight signal and keeps it constant so the CHMSL will not flash when you have your turn signal on. A 2 wire harness was ran following the trucks harness across to the drivers side and connected to the logic box which was secured to the d/s tailight harness . All the grounds were terminated on the vertical box support close behind the d/s tailight assy. It is importantl to use an L.E.D. Specific test light to ensure your connections are correct , as well as using the high quality low melt heat shrink butt connectors to ensure long term integrity of your connections.from there I made a short lead from the same 2 wire harness “from the local parts store by the foot” was ran out from under the bed rail cap . It will pull up easily and if you look up through the tailight opening you will see a beady made hole to run your wire through out into the box Test your stop signal output and put the lights back, zip tie all your wiring thoroughly. Ready for your cap!
